By the way, how do you make sure your game is running smooth? Maybe because you haven't experience the game as it is without DxWnd that you don't realize it is not running properly. I just realize something new. If I run the game with DxWnd with only the most basic settings in General and nothing outside of it, except with DxWnd's FPS counter on as well, this FPS counter is all over the place. It reaches over 100 when game is not set in any way to reach over 60. Meanwhile FRAPS' fps counter shows...
Right, you are. That's weird, I swear I saw the Doomsday scenarios again. It was right before I went to bed, so maybe I was already sleepwalking. What's next? I really don't know. So are you saying you are running it "boardless" with no other settings on and experience no framerate issues? No idea what to say. You haven't tried it on your W7 machine yet, right? Maybe that's the real cause, maybe not.
Running without the launcher doesn't cause it to run without the mod. I run it without the launcher when I am starting through DxWnd too. Look at my main DxWnd screen. The problem you get is because you have input the path to launcher at the "Launch" field. It seems to cause the game to run without applying any of the settings. So just remove anything you have in the "Launch" field and run the game. If it again runs like this then exit and start the the game from the Darkest Hour Launcher.exe itself...

You can think of the steam thing as a bonus really, though it was the easiest thing to fix. Eventually I realized the other problems. My goal would be to be able to play the game in boardless and without turning off AERO, like other games from the same studio can do. Though admitately a but newer. As Darkest Hour is a 2011 "game", but it is really a mod for a 2005 game. DxWnd actually works great with the 2008 Europa Universalis: Rome and makes it work like I want to. The game can't run boardless...
I am not using Fraps as a limiter, just a way to look at the framerate. Though it can often differ with the frame counter of DxWnd, which is the one that shows even bigger numbers usually. Yes and no. When the game was reaching 160-170 fps with the AERO optimization off and the clippero on it did run "smooth" as in it didn't feel sluggish in anyway, but the framrate was over the place and GPU load was at ~40-50%, when if I run the game normally without DxWnd it is non-existent, but maybe it is not...

The title might say Darkest Hour, but it is not it, believe me. Is the "Launch" option important? Try removing it and you will probably see for yourself. Here is my setting file if you want to look at it. You will need the "select mod" option in it if you are going to continue skipping the launcher. Or at least try running it first once without DxWnd through the launcher and select Darkest Hour Full. It should remember the mod for the next time you rung through the Darkext Hour.exe itself. But the...
