The workaround is to not use EQ APO but instead route the audio to a DAW like Cubase or Fruity Loops If you are hoping for any technical updates, that won't happen. The maximum support is that the app will stay compatible to the latest Windows releases. Thats it.

You could try to use a compressor or even multiple in a row and try to control the volume level this way. But this will affect the overall dynamic of the sound. But I guess this is better for your ears. A limiter won't help because it will cut peaks, but loud stays loud. There is also a VST from Waves called "vocal rider" I don't know how it would work in your case, but it could be worth to give it a shot.
