As you can tell by the topic title my question regards file system journaling which has been been discussed in the "Security Requirements and Precautions/Journaling File Systems" veracrypt documentation. In my case I run veracrypt in a ubuntu host using ext4. The veracrypt container is in an external hard drive and is using the ext2.
