Searching for that .dll on google usually tells me to install Microsoft visual C++ 2015. I had like a dozen of Microsoft Visual C++ installed (many years and even both 32 and 64 bits.). I'll try to clean this a little.

Reinstalled the game and download last dxwnd version. Same error on log file about "api-ms-win-appmodel-runtime-l1-1-1" file. I guess the problem it Steam's mess. When it launches the game, I have no idea what .exe it runs, what else it tries before actually running the game .exe. There is even some autohotkey scripts that come bundled with the game that apparently do some weird stuff with game resolution.

Hey gho, thanks for testing. (even when I disappeared for almost a month. sorry, hardware problems) Started over today. Started by importing the original AOEII .dxw fiile, fixed the target and unchecked the "Main / Run in Window" as you said. It's not hanging on that white screen anymore, but also isn't starting. It crashes right after "validating subscriptions". Did you change anything else other than the "Run in Window" and the "Correct mouse position" flags in that test that let you open the game...

I just tried with my voobly patched old AOE2 version. It won't crash, but apparently it does nothing (if I start by double clicking the .exe). In AOE2 you can't zoom out, so if you have a low resolution monitor, you can see a smaller area than your oponent. It's a huge disadvantage... Just a tought. I could create a secondary account on steam and activate family sharing. Then I e-mail you the username+password and it would be possible for you to play any game I have on my steam account. Never done...

The original Age of Empires 2 does not support resolutions higher than 1280x1024. You woud need to try Userpatch 1.4 or 1.5. (http://userpatch.aiscripters.net/) The easiest way to install them would be using voobly.com client.

I've been struggling with Age of Empires 2 Hd (Steam version). Game not even starts if hook enabled (window opens, turns white and crashes) What I really wanna do is make the game run in a window at a higher resolution than my mative desktop res. (basically, I want to play 1080i in a 1366x768 screen). Should it be possible with DxWnd? I was doing it with https://www.timbreofprogram.info/wndmode/, but its too buggy and some AV detect it as a malware...
