I really like the idea of multiple hidden volumes! The other way to achieve more plausible deniability that I was hinting at with my question would be to use an established algorithm to encrypt the outer volume, so you could use, say BitLocker, to access the outer volume (when forced to do so) and you would only need VC to unlock a hidden volume within, when no one is looking. CnCrypt can load VeraCrypt cryptographic volumes (non-BLAKE2s algorithm) I've never heard of CnCrypt. Is it a rebranded VeraCrypt...

Thanks for your reply. I've read those parts of the manual, but they address more sophisticated scenarios where an attacker (monitoring the volume's sectors over time, or exploiting SSD wear-levelling) has actual evidence for the existence of a hidden volume. The worry I have is that sheer knowledge of VeraCrypt being used leads an adversary to almost certainly know that a hidden volume is present. It's one of the defining features of VeraCrypt after all. It's certainly the reason I got interested...

Hi, I’m a sporadic user of VeraCrypt, and fascinated by the concept of hidden volumes. My use case is to have a pair of outer/hidden volumes on a USB flash drive, so I can safely carry personal data with me. The question that I've had from the beginning, and that I haven't seen discussed either here or elsewhere on the web is whether the existence of a hidden VeraCrypt volume can be truly plausibly denied. My understanding is that VeraCrypt volumes can only be decrypted with VeraCrypt. If that is...
