I did a big recording (almost two hours) and now recordmydesktop filled all my RAM but wasn't able to produce a out.ogv file longer than 8min11 (1.2 GB). I moved the raw files (50GB) from /tmp/rMD-session-4625 to another drive and tried again thanks to the --rescue option but it still produces exactly the same shot ogv file. Hey! It's me from the future. I have the same problem with a 2 hours video except I used the command line to record the video. At the end, during the encoding, it produced a short (8min11, 1.2GB) out.ogv file, RecordMyDesktop continued to fill my RAM until it filled the 16GB I have and my 2GB swap, but the out.ogv file never grew more.
