Thanks Jeremy, Looks like I'm stuck then. You seem to be saying that it's a failure of expectation and, to some degree, you may be right but I would argue that wrong information is almost as bad as no information. The best-guessing is a bit crap TBH. It reminds me of the old days on Windows when you'd copy a file and it would say it would take 5 days, then 10 minutes then 4 secs or something daft. What's frustrating is that imaging a Win 10 HD on the SAME hardware using Macrium Reflect Free 8.0 flies...
The problem of slow speeds that I reported back in 2022 is still present in later versions of Clonezilla (and Rescuezilla) which both depend on partclone to do the 'heavy lifting'. My feeling is that there is still an issue with partclone that's been left unaddressed for years. What will it take to get the problem to be taken seriously? I offered to gather information back in 2022 but to no avail. It's clear that users on the Rescuezilla forum are reporting the same sort of problems. I tried imaging...
I have no idea what this is so you can close it quite happily.
I have repeated my tests using the latest versions of Clonezilla (ie 3.0.3-22 and 20230212-kinetic ) and the results using a Samba share are just as bad as before. I hoped the new version of partclone might help. However, I had better success using NFS shares on the same NAS so I will use that in future. Saving to an NFS share was about twice as fast as saving to an SMB share. The post here:https://sourceforge.net/p/clonezilla/discussion/Clonezilla_live/thread/c8b7f01d74/?limit=25#ca67 suggests I...

Merry Xmas, Steven.
Yes, "z9p" was one option I tried. I only use CIFS. Maybe I could try NFS but I have never used it. Can Clonezilla upload images via FTP? I couldn't find an option for that. I will try anything that might work for me. You are very dedicated to be doing this on Christmas Day.
