I can see why the author (Igor) wants this change, as it is true that once 7-Zip starts hitting your pagefile, performance grinds to a halt. But having a hard-limit that only a certain maximum dictionary-size can be used based on the physical RAM in the machine is also silly, as it doesn't take into account the file or folder size. Might I suggest the issue here is that 7-Zip does not pre-allocate its RAM at the operation start -- which means if the user were to open other apps, 7-Zip could then...
My pagefile is turned-off (to avoid excessive writes on my SSD), so there is no swap it can create a big load for ;) Previously using a higher-dictionary was not an issue: 7-Zip would either tell me it cannot do it full-stop, or providing enough RAM was free it would begin and I would simply not open any-other apps while it was doing it's thing. It would often peak at around 7.7GB of RAM. It's a shame therefore this "hard no" change has been introduced... so if I uninstall 21.03 and reinstall 21.02...
Hi all I'm using the 21.03 beta version of 7-Zip on 64-bit Windows 10, Version 21H1. My computer has 8GB of RAM. When compressing a small-sized folder (say total-size 300MB or-less) I used to be able to use the former maximum dictionary size of 1536MB, and it would complete without an issue. Suddenly though, 7-Zip now won't allow me to go-above the 512MB dictionary size. Even the next-one-up, 768MB, gives me this message: Does anyone know when this change was made -- I cannot find any mention of...
Hi all Could anyone please explain in simple-terms how to get the QAAC codec to work in fre:ac please? I have downloaded the latest portable 64-bit version of fre:ac for Windows (freac-1.1.5-windows-x64.zip) and extracted it into an area I have full write-permissions on. I have then copied the latest "qaac64.exe" (v2.72) into this folder: freac-1.1.5-x64\codecs\cmdline According to this post (which is the only one I can find on the issue), I am then supposed to go into "boca" folder and then create...
@Igor: in many apps, you can delete recent-entries by simply pressing the UP and DOWN ARROW-KEYS on the keyboard to highlight an entry, then press the Delete (DEL) key. Maybe you could add this to 7-Zip to allow MRU entries to be more-easily deleted?

There doesn't seem to be a way to do this within the UI, no. To get rid of the entire list in your screenshot, go into the Registry and browse here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\7-Zip\Compression Then delete the value called "ArcHistory" And when you're in 7-Zip, if you click the "Copy" or "Move" buttons on the toolbar, there is a recent-folder list there also. To clear that list, browse to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\7-Zip\FM And delete the value "CopyHistory" There is also another list of essentially...
