Here's a newer version of my mod of aacgain that updates the iTunNORM soundCheck tag for aac files. The mod only applies to aac files. I tweaked and improved a few things. Readme in the zip file has additional info. Again, I made this for myself but thought I'd share it.

Old problem but here is a potential solution... Let's say you normalized with -a -d 4 -c The replaygain values will be off by -4dB since they are modeled around 89dB and you normalized to 93dB. Replaygain will always try to lower the volume to 89dB. If you adjust the replaygain values by subtracting the 4dB then you must add that 4dB back when loading the files the next time. a few years ago I made my own aacgain mod to update the iTunNORM SoundCheck tag for aac files. I don't personally use MP3s so I don't modify the tag in MP3s. It's far more complex in MP3 files anyway. I thought I'd share it here if anyone is interested. I have recently updated it so it incorporates the code enhancements made up to mp3gain 1.6.2. It still uses mpglibDBL though. I couldn't get aacgain to compile with the latest mp3gain 1.6.2 so I just incorporated it's non libmpg123 code enhancements...
