You can't have labels within functions !!! Surely that should be you can't GOTO somewhere inside a function from somewhere outside of the function. Inside to inside GOTOs should be allowed. FUNCTION to END FUNCTION should be changed to FUNCTION name(param list) ( ... ) , also same for FOR ... NEXT, DO ... UNTIL, WHILE ... END WHILE .

I am working on teaching extra-terrestrial intelligences to program using the simplest programming language. This has the absolute minimum of syntax rules and special characters, and should be capable of being extended to more complex language tasks. Both ends of the conversation will need to translate the binary communication into their own characters and write a compiler for their hardware. A subset of BASIC-256 is very close to what is needed, however: Why do variables holding strings have to...

I have been using Ubuntu since Lucid (10-04), with Puppy-5.2.7 to rescue me, mostly with GRUB4DOS when I stuff up my boot process. My preferred setup is Ubuntu Server + xorg +LXDE, but I see bloat everywhere. I have just started with LxPup-Bionic and I'm trying to understand how it is so small. 1. It only has a root user, which is OK by me, 2. It doesn't have "apt" or "dpkg", which probably saves a lot in /var/cache/apt/archives/ but I wonder how limiting that might turn out to be. 3. It uses squashfs...

I don't have any installed, that's the problem. I downloaded usermin_1.750_all.deb and webmin_1.900_all.deb from the webmin repository and the error is produced when it tries to install apt-show-versions. It leaves apt-show-versions (0.22.7) "partially installed" (installed but not configured because of the error) and webmin/usermin not installed. $ sudo dpkg -i ./webmin_1.900_all.deb [sudo] password for dk: Selecting previously unselected package webmin. There are 69 pages of topic items on "apt-show-versions" some of them dating back 5 years. The latest webmin and usermin packages both still have this error, "Error: No information about packages! (Maybe no deb entries?)", which is NOT fixed by installing the dependencies. Instead of stopping the configuration, leaving webmin not installed, you should leave the version information blank and carry on installing webmin. And hurry up! Before Xmas (2018) would be OK.
