@wellread1 Thanks! Those were the exact to settings I was needing. Didn't even know that those settings existed. Do you know why they were changed? And do upstream changes like that always overwrite a users settings? @pail459 I just prefer the interface that way. I work in my own private office at my home on my own computer so I have no reason to need the passwords obscured. Is there a reason you ask? Does it hurt anything to have the passwords displayed?

Since I upgraded to 2.56, KeePass won't seem to remember my password display preferences, either in the configure columns settings or in the edit entry settings. Anyone know what's going on?

In case anyone comes looking for the solution, what Dominik suggest above works with Windows shortcuts in addition to the command line. Just go in to the properties of the shortcut and add the database path after the exe path. i.e. Target: "C:\Program Files\KeePass Password Safe 2\KeePass.exe" "C:\Path\to\my\database\Master.kdbx" Two notes: (1) as stated in the command line documentation, if your path contains spaces, make sure it's in quotes (2) if you have the shortcut pinned to the start menu...

floa, thanks for the tip. Do you know if it has to be done every time an upgrade happens? Also one note for people who might be having trouble with the first command: If your system doesn't recognize monodis, you just have to install mono-utils.

I've been using KeePass on a Linux Mint system for a while now and everything works great. But the update notification keeps reminding me that I'm getting quite behind on the versions (2.44 vs 2.51) and I'm starting to worry about security. Is there a recommended way to install the latest version, particularly if I started from Ubuntu package (https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/keepass2)?

The hide-unhide works fine in a technical sense (provided you follow the AskWoody instructions). My concern is that I won't remember to go back in and unhide. I don't like KeeWeb as much as KeePass, but it will do until MS can get their act together -- which will hopefully be soon if the problem is effecting many different .NET projects. Thanks again for your help with this.

Paul, thanks for the good suggestion. I was a little skeptical at first (since my issue is different than BR1891) but the same update (KB4515871) was indeed the problem. I uninstalled the update and KeePass started right up. Unfortunately, Windows reinstalled the update soon after and I was back to no KeePass again. For me personally, I would prefer not to go the route of hiding or pausing Windows updates -- especially when KeeWeb is available as an in-place alternative. Do you know if this is an...
