Thank you, Dimitry. For me I now consider this issue closed with the following points: 1. You (Dimitry) fixed the bug so that imagemaps do not incapicate an instance of Freeplane. 2. I am now back in full use of Freeplane (Yea!) and have cleaned up my corrupted mindmaps (see my earlier note on procedure). 3. Guard against the incursion of crap HTML code and imagemaps into Freeplane. 4. My initial negative comments about Freeplane and the lack of attention to problems were rash and ill-advised. I...
I manually removed bad content from all my mindmap files but Freeplane 1.8.7_07 still contaminates that instance if an imagemap occurs in any note. Did you make a second change on this bug, Dimitry, and should I install the stable 1.8.7?
Dimitry: Thank you for your response. I did not think of submitting a bug report. Amateur's mistake. Sorry. I purged (Linux) old Freeplane then installed freeplane_1.8.7-pre07_upstream-1_all.deb with dpkg. The same problem persists. HOWEVER, although the same rogue code is inserted into the notes' HTML, it does not incapacitate editing the text like it did before. I can now, for the moment, at least, ignore the HTML code. So it seems the problem is fixed /enough/ to allow me to proceed with my work....
I am extremely disappointed in Freemind. I started with Freeplane, thought both were great programs, just what I had been looking for. But now I have lost several weeks of work because Freeplane, and then Freemind after I switched to it, began injecting renegade HTML code (copied from one of my own files) repeatedly. Every time I tried to correct or enter new text in a note, and save it, the same several lines of code are injected and make it impossible to use the program. I have now lost many weeks...
Thank you, David. It is not my desire to proselytize for Freeplane, but it does seem to get quite a bit more recent attention. You might consider taking a look at it (mindmaps in my experience have been mostly interchangeable between the two programs).
Thanks for taking a look, Chris. Activity on the Freeplane discussion board picked up and the problem has been solved for the most part. You can find that under my "Horrible. . ." thread over there. Thanks again. Charles
Yo Alexandre, I believe you are correct - imagemaps are not supported. Now. Before Dimitri fixed the bug imagemaps were worse than "not supported," more like a virus. Fortunately they are now, after the bug fix, mainly just an annoyance and I will certainly avoid them from now on. I submitted a bug report to this effect. Maybe Dimitri will find time to fix the bug so imagemaps no longer infect an instance of Freeplane. Either way I will continue to use Freeplane now that I have exorcised all imagemaps...
Thank you, Alexandre, for your message. I agree with you about editing HTML in notes. The script you describe sounds very useful for certain uses but I do not at the moment forsee my own need for it. As for tomorrow . . . well, you know how that goes. I might ask you for it in the future. All of the HTML code I have (accidentally) introduced into notes appears to be be well-digested by Freeplane 1.8.7.07 with the exception of imagemaps. They are highly insidious. Anyone interested in knowing how...
