    Removal of Offline Buddy

  • Chris Wood Chris Wood posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

Thanks. I had realised that changing the footprint would reset the component, I'd just not considered doing it deliberately!

  • Chris Wood Chris Wood posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

The component editor seems unable to "forget" the last component. Even if nothing is selected in the circuit layout, the editor still remembers the last component it was editing. In order to create a new component from scratch, I have to save the circuit, exit the program and start again. Is this correct? Can you give some guidance about specifying Type and Value? I want to create components for SD and RTC modules. These are physically similar in footprint (size and pin layout) but clearly logically...

Unable to sync with Secrets for Android - comms problem

  • Chris Wood Chris Wood posted a comment on ticket #2

The problem turned out to be that the sync app needs to be started before attempting the sync operation. I guess that leaving it to Android to fire it up automatically means it doesn't get started fast enough.

Seems that I'm not getting notified of these discussion so apologies. I'll see what I can do.

Import in format of text/CSV uses the combination Group/Title field to import the title. It uses a dot separator between Group(s) and Title, which means that Title cannot contain dots e.g. web address. This was raised as a bug many years ago: 289 Plain text import: . (dot) cannot be used in account title which was fixed with these comments: The plain text format will be changed to allow putting the title in quotes when there's a dot in it, allowing the import function to separate between the group...

I will. This is the Linux beta version. Update: went to file a bug report and found it's already reported: 1129 Incorrectly parsing Notes column during import from plain text. which has been open for 10 years :-(

I'm experiencing this problem, so it's still around. Just to answer this question: why should this be at all strange? The data to be imported will have come from some other product, so the columns could be in any order. I've found little or no information about what Password Safe expects in a CSV file to be imported.

  • Chris Wood Chris Wood posted a comment on discussion Open Discussion

Without a doubt there are better ways I could use the Password Safe fields, but for me that boat has already sailed - the data is what it is, and I'm trying to get my existing 280 entries into the product with minimum fuss. This will be determined hopefully by answers to my import questions.

I'm making progress with import but I have a few questions if that's OK. Help mentions a "Group" field, but export shows a combination "Group/Title" field. Presumably this parses Group and Title from the value but I can't find what the rules are. I often use a website address for the Title but the dots are being treated as delimiters. What are the rules? I frequently (mis)use my password vault just to hold sensitive data e.g.for credit cards. These entries are getting rejected because they have no...

I initially didn't see CSV as an export option, but a realized that text is the same thing. I've got the field names for import from a sample export, as you suggested. There seems to be a problem with import if Notes is not the last field in the record - import either ignores anything following if all on one line (thereby having insufficient data fields), or if Notes is split across multiple lines, it has an issue with the double quotes on anything following. Is this a known problem? Unfortunately...

I don't see CSV as an export option. I'm on Linux - is that relevant?.

  • Chris Wood Chris Wood posted a comment on discussion Open Discussion

That seems just what I'm looking for. Thanks. I'll check it out.

I currently use a password manager on the PC that is matched with a compatible app on Android . They aren't the same product but have a compatible data structure so that they can interchange entries, and so can synchronize their contents. I manage the PC program and I'm deciding if I want to continue maintaining it. I'm looking at Password Safe to see if it can replace it. My main concern is synchronization. My PC program can communicate directly with its sibling mobile app to synchronize their entries....

I'm looking at using Password Safe to replace the password manager I currently use. I'm a Linux user and I'm looking at how I would transfer my existing entries. My current product can export in XML and CSV format. Password Safe can only import KeePass CSV format data, which isn't the same structure as my existing manager exports ... but I can map fields as best I can. However, "email" doesn't appear to be a supported even though it's a Password Safe field. Am I right? I've experimented and I find...

Just looking at this product for the first time, and I see both "PasswordSafe" and "Password Safe" being used as the name. Which is it?

Yes absolutely this should work, as would using PCSecrets as the central point between two Android devices. I know nothing about Surface but I assume PCSecrets will run on it if it's Windows. Be aware of a problem I ran into recently - one of the dependent jar files doesn't work with the latest version Java (see closed Ticket). I would need to repackaged the distibution jar to fix it and I've said I won't be doing that. But if there is demand.... let me know, send me a message via this site. Chr...

Discovered that the JCE provider jar (BouncyCastle) doesn't work with OpenJDK version 11 - gets a NoClassDefFound error. If you get this, try an earlier version of Java. Works OK with version 8, don't know about the intermediate versions.

Just to reassure you, PCSecrets is still alive and well, in as much as it still works and I'm still using it myself every day. Syncing with Secrets for Android has for some time had an unresolved issue whereby the sync through the sync app initially fails - just disable and re-enable the wifi and it should work. I've never been able to find what the problem is. Chris

Sorry, don't have Win10 Pro x64 to test on. Fine on previous Win so I've no idea why it doesn't work. Unfortunately I'm a Linux user.
