OK! Thanks very much. I hadn't realized the focus was off. I'll have to see if i can get NINA to set the option.

i'm using astap for plate solving with nina. It worked great with my dslr(fov 3.6D X 2.4D) but i'm struggling with gettimg it working with a cmos camera(fov 1.2'X.8'). I did a windows uninstall of the H17 database and installed the H18 database. Is there anything else i need to do or check? There was one h17.xxx left in the astap folder so i deleted it manually then reran astap.

huh. Thanks very much for the link. As I read that thread the 41xx indexes may be appropriate for my 3.5 degree FOV. The 4100 set is an alternative index set for wide FOV imaging, not recommended for anything narrower than 3 degrees.

I'm shooting with a FOV of 3.5 degrees and experiencing very slow solves and total failures. I noticed today that astrometry.net had solved my image with a 4111.fits vs the 42xx I have in my directory. I googled and found the 41xx set at http://data.astrometry.net/4100/ . I put them into the data directory and now i get 10 second solves. That's great but does it make sense? what are the 41xx fits files vs the 42xx files?

I have an image which is partially obscured by a pillar but solves online with index-4116.fits. The same image fails to solve locally and i see the message above in the log. My understanding is that signal 11 is a segmentation fault - could an obscured image cause it? Other images from the same camera solve locally. I've attached the log. Thanks for any help.

I'm trying to use the ocular to help me pointing my camera. I have the ocular size set pretty well with the focaal length and sensor size so it looks corret on screen. My problem is that I can't position it arbitrarily. I seem to have to move the sky rather than the ocular and it will only move in particular ways(darned sky). For example, in the attached image, the two end stars in the dipper's handle are par way up the left side of the image. If I could move them down to the bottom hercules would...
