Thanks for that warning. Does anyone have any firsthand experience with a stable version after v1.26.7?

This is great news, Mounir. I am very excited to hear there is work/progress on this issue. And hopefully that means VeraCrypt will continue to be a relevant project for Windows users. =)

I'm very excited to see we seem to have some progress suddenly in understanding, and hopefully remediating, the freezing issue(s) !!! :-) Thanks to everyone who contributed to the discussion and to Mounir.

Interesting idea about antivirus. I'm running Avast.

It is indeed possible that over the many years of following this thread, and the many unrelated red herrings that have tried to pile onto it, I lost track of a few instances/details. :-) It always seemed the consensus was an SSD related prerequisite, but maybe, as you say, it's not strictly so.

This is perhaps the best explanation suggested so far. A combination of an SSD with certain other unidentified hardware element(s) would account for everything observed: 1) The crashes always involve having a system SSD drive. (This is the case despite the confusion caused by many other people piling onto this thread to discuss other issues. For this thread, having an SSD is always part of the problem.) 2) The issue also involves virtual memory, and turning off swap or unencrypting the system drive...

It is indeed sad the disinterest in fixing this. The workaround of disabling virtual memory has been my crutch for years. For my next system I will sadly go with another system encryption tool. As a user since the TrueCrypt days, I'm really sad about the state of this project.
