Personally I think this is a great Idea, I have been looking over this project for a class on OSS for about 10 weeks. What I wanted to do is exactly what your proposing. I have some pyQt experience but I could not get a finished product done for class in such a short time. If you all agree to go ahead I may try and help you on your GUI if you like.
