Thanks. Installed Qt5 for Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit. No Systray icon with or without appmenu-qt5 package. Installed 17.11.2 Qt4 version and removed appmenu-qt (for Qt4). Now Systray > Recent Files works. Thanks!

When I went to link provided all I saw where the released smplayer_17.11.2+2.1_amd64.deb releases.

Is Unity a desktop? Whatever is the desktop for Ubuntu 14.04. I'm on the HWE / LTS stack if that matters.

I've been using Sys tray icon so didn't try Open > Recent Files until you asked. Even using 17.9.0 Open > Recent Files does not work. Displays a tiny shadow but that's it. Almost unnoticeable. Open > {Favorites, TV, Radio} also display a tiny shadow. I haven't added any Favorites or configured TV or Radio so this may be how an empty list is rendered in Qt?

Curious, thanks. I built it and determined that it (for me) doesn't work in r8790. It does work in r8789. I'm building using Qt4 if that matters.
