Seems to be working. Scanned for plugins just fine. I had removed the previous version before placing them into the plugins folder though.
Ok, your screenshot is how AOI looked for me before the MechanistoLayout was installed. I guess I'll have to live with the weirdness until you can get those problems fixed. Thanks for the info on the Selections plugin. 👍🙂
First time I tried the scan, it did the popup note errors, then after dismissing those, I told it to rescan and then it all worked and the plugins updated correctly. 👍 🖖 I have more questions about AOI so I will start new threads for those.
Every time I start AOI now, it swaps window views, it does not seem to remember which window has which view from before. Some good news: it now remembers that I wanted the grids for each new project.
When I tried that out, it wanted some types of files like, svg or gif or jpg. I thought I had to use an AOI file for a template?

Please try the attached, and see if they work for you. Who should try it, me, or the one that maintains the files on the server? 🤔 If I should do the trying, where do I place the files or do I use the script from a command line?
"why someone implemented it as a full plugin rather than a startup script, I do not understand." It was done that way at my request from the Friendly Skies forum.

I like the layout to look like this. would be good to be able to turn this off or on, since not everyone likes the same thing.
The jar file...
Ok, here's some screenshots and hopefully, a jar file... 1) the blue color 2) Missing grids 3) the jar file
Yes, I would like to set it up so that the grid shows up by default in all 3 editor Windows: TriMeshEditorWindow, PolyMeshEditorWindow and LayoutWindow. Right now, only 1 or 2 grids show for each window. I also have an old bsh file that sets the render environment to a nice blue color like Blender has, I wonder if it would still work?
Got it working! I got rid of the the txt files and AdvancedRendering.jar files. Then to test that out I did this and got a message: java -jar ArtOfIllusion.jar >aoilog.txt *** The following plugins were not loaded because their imports could not be resolved: HIDPlugin-drivers.jar EffectsCatcher.jar So, I played around with it to see what the log would look like ... when I copied the plugins over, windows told me that it detected copies of some of the files and I told it fo skip those. Ill try getting rid of the txt files and AdvancedRendering.jar.

Here it is. The same as the screenshot above That's odd... there's nothing in that txt file that you mentioned.

So, here's the screenshot of what I did and the result. It just stayed on the startup screen and that was it.
Just these (see attached) I forgot how to run AOI from command line in Windows.... Gotta go look that up.
I just tried to place plugins into the correct matching directory and the program wouldn't start. The opening screen just sat there, not doing anything. Can't use AOI without these plugins so it's now useless to me.
I have Windows 10. Java is up to date. I just downloaded AOI 3.2.0 today and installed it. It installed in the default directory that it wanted. But, when I tried to scan the plugin scripts, it wouldn't load anything. One attachment shows my present AOI (3.1.0) then shows the problem one (3.2.0) with error message. My computer was locked up and I had to use the task manager to quit the Java process in order to close AOI. 3rd screenshot is the message I get.

😊😊😊 thanks
Well, this isn't much but I managed to remember how to mirror model and played with textures. Had a lot of fun with that. (Not the procedural textures, but the simpler projection method.) Playing with the lights is my other favorite thing. :D
Thanks! Finally figured out that MS thing. It was already set to Warn. BUT There was a little word, "More" ... I had to click that and then it let me execute it anyway. They really hide that! The switch for the ViewLayout doesn't seem to work. I had tried that but it didn't take effect, even after I restarted AOI. After manually deleting the MechanistoLayout script, and starting AOI, I discovered that I just had to go into the View menu and select OneView (Cntrl + b) and then I had the 4 panes that...
The exe still didn't work. I don't quite know how to tell the terminal to start the exe. The message in the terminal said something like type: ".\Art Of Illusion.exe" and I did that but it just didn't work. The following is what I get when trying to start AOI by clicking on the exe...
P.S. The version that crashed was 3.1.0 Stable.
P.S. The version that crashed was 3.1.0
The nightly worked. I had to use the .jar to run it though because Windows 10 would not allow me to run the .exe no matter what. Now I have another question: How do I get the 4 window view? It will only give me the default 3 +1 view or the whole screen. The older AOI's that had no problem were 2.9.2 and 3.0.2 (they ran on Windows 7).

P.S. I have an older AOI installed on my old hard drive which was put into this new computer (intact) and I found and ran that version of AOI successfully. I don't know why the older AOI would run fine that way but a New install can't seem to run on the new Win 10 hard drive.
I'm on a new computer that is running Windows 10, 64 bit. I installed Java, both 64 bit and 32 bit. When I try to run AOI, it just crashes immediately. I just got finished with testing. Oddly, things went very well today! No problems with the downloading and installation of the scripts and plugins. Maybe it was the internet connection doing weird things or maybe the server was having a problem last night? Dunno. Thanks guys! I've been watching you! :D (lurking, following the forum)
Well, I just tried it and: 1) I really don't know what directory I should be in when I type that java command in. I also don't remember how to change directories when in the terminal. (it was in the system 32 directory) 2) Nothing happend when I typed that command in. 3) I had to search my computer for errlog.txt and finally found it. 4) This is what it said: Error: Unable to access jarfile ArtOfIllusion.jar The same thing happened with the test install: plugins wouldn't install and I had to quit...

ok. Maybe tonight or tomorrow.
Yes I had opened 3.1.0 and tried downloading the plugins then I saw nothing was happening. That'swhen I closed AOI and restarted and tried again. Then it worked. The laptop computer runs windows 8.1. and is an HP Pavillion

I don't have a theme but I do have a startup script that makes the environment blue (from friendlyskies). I'll have to consult the notes I took. (I tend to save everything). With my computer laptop setup, I don't have a mouse, the laptop has a tracpad and a touchscreen. It gets annoying to try to navigate but I can try to remember how. Funzy wunzy trying to relearn everything again. P.S. it's bad on this site trying to type on an Android phone. You have to hit the spacebar twice between words.
ok, n/m. I got it to work after I closed AOI then tried again after relaunching it. Maybe there should be a message saying that restarting before attempting to install plugins is needed?
I just downloaded and installed AOI 310 and now I'm attempting to download and install the plugins. It seems that when I scan, the repo responds but when I select all the plugins that I want and hit "Install Selected" nothing happens. There is no progress bar, nothing at all. I don't know if it is installing anything. It's been quite a few years since I installed and ran AOI so I don't remember everything. Any help will be appreciated.
