That may not be the best way to forward AIS to aprs.fi, as anything that goes through YAAC gets converted to APRS. There are quite a few stations (including 10 in your country) already forwarding AIS to aprs.fi; you might want to ask them or Hessu (the author of aprs.fi) how they are doing it. They might be doing it with native AIS, so the stations remain identified as maritime instead of amateur radio.

Hmmm... which window manager/desktop are you using on Ubuntu? KDE, Gnome, Cinnamon, Mate, etc? There have been certain "features" with Java's interactions with some window managers when trying to fully emulate the window manager's look & feel which don't happen with other window managers.
