greetings sleekmason... thank you for your informative reply and suggestions. apology for posting the question in the wrong area. future questions will be in the Lilidog forum. with much appreciation. ..ric..
greetings sleekmason... i see that you are affiliated with pmos (peppermintos) too. pmos-devuan is one of the distros (4) that i use. my computer is rather old (> 17yrs), it seems to run better with non-systemd init systems. the suggestion: a devuan version of lilidog. maybe, a distinguishing name of: ???cat :=) i briefly looked at a live-usb of your current version (bookworm - 23.12.21) and all your tweaks and customizations are quite nice. the question; the live-usb has a conky with taoist quotes...
here's a couple screenshots of xfce with compiz as wm. as my computer is old with only 3gb ram, i only use this combo if nostalgic for extra special effects :-). compiz has many more effects than kwin. eg, the 3D-cube for switching workspaces is quite cool. also, compiz, on my system, is not as stable as kwin or xfwm. nothing drastic, just annoying. on my brother's system, he has 8gb ram, i added cairo-dock instead of plank for even more effects. cairo-dock has really cool rotating icons, when selected,...
@Adam Hughes --- thank you for your kind words. xfce4-panel rounded corners depends on version of xfce being used. the latest changed syntax somewhat. in one's ~/.config files should be a 'gtk-3.0' folder; & within that may be (if not create) a 'gtk.css' file. what to add: old xfce > https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=15163 new xfce > https://superuser.com/questions/1788589/xfce4-panel-update-broke-border-radius best wishes.
at login i choose between using fluxbox or xfce as i like both depending on my mood :-) here's my basic xfce with kwin as wm as i like kwin's effects. resources about 50-70mb ram more than with xfwm . plank same as in fluxbox; panel is now xfce4-panel with corners rounded, not tint2; no gkrellm as default. one image of 'wobbly windows', another of 'fall apart' windows. others enabled are 'magic lamp' for minimizing and 'wisps' for when apps start. kwin also has nice window decorations - 2 of my ...
here's screenshot of my current fluxbox. it changes frequently and always learning. sometimes use gkrellm, sometimes not. i change gkrellm's theme depending on the wallpaper. wallpapers are rotated and different each login. plank theme varies too with wallpaper being used & mood :-) . the menu displayed below tint2 is jgmenu; cursor is bibata-modern-pink. ram use high as firefox is loaded in background. one shot without windows open.
that is what i had surmised. thank you for confirming. peace ~ cheers
greetings... having looked at most major de & wm i have a couple of favs. for the minimalist in me i like fluxbox with tint2/plank/xcompmgr & sometimes gkrellm; for the stable in me i go with xfce/xfwm; for the bling in me i like xfce either with kwin or compiz (i go between them) as the window manager (cool effects in xfce de); icon sets i like: buuf, oxygen, oomox-Duskfox, antu; for style: blackbird, dracula. the marwaita theme (dark) is nice. when kwin is wm, can also use kvantum for theming qt...
greetings... downloaded & resinstalled latest 64bit devuan. runit installed fine. however, the 'welcome' icon & 'hub' icon are on the panel & menu but the programs do not run. i tried from terminal and they don't seem to be installed. worked fine in live session. maybe my install choices? i have separate / & /home partitions. during install i reformated / but not /home. this was installed over my previous devuan (chimaera) and wanted to keep my /home settings. not an issue for me as i do most package...
your prompt reply and quick fix is most commendable thank you
no, thank you! one minor caveat, i think. i did a fresh install from the new xfce devuan release and all went fine. it's nice there's an option to choose from 3 init systems. i chose runit. upon rebooting after installation, i did a check of the init (cat /proc/1/comm & stat /sbin/init. sysV was displayed. i just did a "#apt install runit-init" and all seems to be working fine with runit displayed now. maybe it's my ancient (> 17yrs) computer? also, not sure if this is the right place to mention...
downloaded and looked at Xfce version in a live usb session. nice wallpapers and suite of apps for those wanting a more robust os. personally, i tend more toward minimal. so, i would get rid of libreoffice and replace chromium with firefox-esr. also, i'd remove snapd - not a fan. maybe have as a choice? maybe a devuan version? one of the distros i currently run is peppermint-devuan replacing sysV with runit. if one is looking for a distro to use as is without much tinkering, this looks nice. peace...
greetings... i saw your statement that the peppermint devuan ver will be released later this year; as devuan has released their ver 5, daedalus; and, debian bookworm is now at 12.1 : any update on the status of peppermint-devuan-bookworm version? thank you for doing a devuan ver. peace ~ cheers,
one of the distros i now run is - peppermintos-devuan version. i recently saw a video by MiyoLinux on switching from sysV to runit. if links are allowed, it's here> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoUx7Fr9MVg did. quick, easy and verified now using peppermintos-devuan with runit. no issues so far. nice. thank you for having a devuan version.
