Thanks to all for the comments & suggestions, somewhat belated though they may be. I was able to rectify the problem by means of a careful and time-consuming exercise in removing all references to the old Keepass path to be found in the windows registry, that maze of dread and eldritch keys, subkeys and values.
I am unable to install the 2.46 update because the installation program finds the wrong folder for my installation. The keepass-ready-to-install-dir-location.png attachment shows the path it's finding. However, this folder path is out date and points to a drive that's no longer valid on my system that was used for a previous installation. For this reason, the install fails w/ a "drive or UNC share does not exist" message. Unfortunately, the installation program does not include any way to change...
