Problem Description: I was using Clonezilla Live to clone a copy of an old Deskstar hard drive from a defunct Windows XP computer to an external 5 TB hard drive for archive purposes. (The Deskstar was accessed from an external docking station.) I then planned to build a virtual Windows XP 32-bit machine in my new Windows 10 box using Oracle's VirtualBox, then use Clonezilla again to transfer the clone into the virtual machine, thus avoiding the hassle of setting up the external docking station every...

Hi, all. I've read several posts regarding which version of Clonezilla to use, and the web site has a pretty good explanation, but there are still some issues remaining. First, consider a clone created with one version and stored on an external hard drive. Sometime later (years, maybe) I may want to load this clone into a VM. (I'm using VirtualBox.) I found one post where Steven said it shouldn't matter, but there may be differences. So I would presume the safe bet is use the SAME version of Clonezilla...

Hi, all! I have tried to use Clonezilla Live to image the drive on my Toshiba laptop to an external HD. This is a Win 7 machine with a dual boot Fedora distro. The processor is Intel, and I have tried both the -686-pae and -686 versions of Clonezilla. Everything clones except the sda2 partition, which contains the Win C: drive. That fails with messages about "bad sectors." When I looked at the forum discussions, one thread suggested using expert mode with dd as an option for partclone. I retried...

Thanks, Peter. I thought I had closed this post earlier, but here goes again. I realized the Gateway processor was an AMD 9500 Phenom, not an Intel chip. However, I had downloaded an i686 Live version. So I went back and downloaded the Clonezilla Live AMD version, and it worked. I'm trying to learn Linux, because it appears that gives many more toolsx for investigating computer problems. Peter

I have been using Clonezilla Live on three computers, but It won't start when booted on and old Gateway. I am using a USB stick, which worked on the other machines. I get the splash page, and after I hit start, nothing happens. The arrow keys no longer work. I have also tried selecting the option to run from RAM, which worked on a laptop, and again the arrow keys become unresponsive. I know the USB port works, because I can boot GParted. The Clonezilla version is 2.6.5-21-1686-pae; the Gateway has...

I have not used Clonezilla. I want to clone or image four computers to a 5TB external Seagate hard drive. Two computers are Windows 7, one is a Windows 8, and the last is a Win 10 box. I seem to remember reading that Clonezilla first creates a file system on the destination drive, then proceeds to overwrite any existing information. If that is so, then the second image backup from computer #2 would erase the image from computer #1, or am I mistaken? Do I just need to partition the 5TB hard drive...

  • Posted a comment on discussion General Discussion on DocFetcher

This is probably a very simple question, but I can't find an answer in the DocFetcher manual. I have copied searchable PDF files to a DVD for archiving. If I now want to search those files, how do get DocFetcher to do so? Have it build an index on D:/ . first? Or do I have to copy the DVD to my hard drive, which kind of negates the whole archive idea... Thanks Alaskaman
