Hey Dominik, Are you one of the developers? Do any of the developers come here and read these comments? Or is it all participants and mods? Regards, Alan
Hi Paul, I do not know how to turn "on the version check / check manually," and to tell you the truth, I just do not have the inclination to do that right now. What I did do is go to "help>about Keepass," which reports I am running version 1.41. So I am satisfied with the fix I accidentally discovered. Maybe it will help somebody else in the future. I am including a screenshot below. In my opinion, there is something strange about the routine that automatically checks the version number. It likely...
Hello wellread1 and Paul, Here is a little update: I turned off the automatic version check, because one of you had told me that the previous version is perfectly safe. A couple of days later I noticed that it was reporting that I had version 1.41. Apparently, the routine that checks to see if you have the current version has a bug. For about a week now, I have not had any reverting. And I am now beginning to wonder if it reverted at all or whether that was just an error in some configuration file...
Hey Paul, Where is the "target symbol"? After I have dragged the target symbol to Keepass, where in this very busy and complicated screen do I look? Regards, Alan
Hello wellread1 and Paul, The version of Acronis that I have is many years old. I do not have a subscription to their service. I use it to strictly backup my computer to an external hard drive. I do that every 3 to 6 months, which is probably not frequently enough. I am not having this problem with other software or earlier versions of Keepass. I also noticed that there are some configuration files here: C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\KeePass I am wondering if there may be a problem there? Regards,...
Hello Paul, Yes! I am absolutely certain there is no other Keepass.exe on my computer. This situation is exactly as I have been saying all along. I am including a screenshot from when I right-clicked on the file, chose properties, and chose details. I am pretty sure there must be a bug in this edition of Keepass. Maybe it's in a configuration file of some type. I am not a developer and do not have the ability to troubleshoot this type of bug. I have been using Keepass for years and have never had...
Hello Paul and wellread1, It looks like it reverted again. I am enclosing a screenshot of the reg query commands. Please not that they PLAINLY showed that this is pointing to the new directory where I had installed Keepass 1.4. I am quite sure nothing on my computer is changing it, and I really wonder if there is some kind of bug in the Keepass code that causes it to revert? I do not know what to do about this at all and I am feeling frustrated and at wits end. Regards, Alan
Hello Paul, I did as he suggested. I am including the screenshot. Regards, Alan
Hello wellread1, When I reinstalled KP, I uninstalled through the windows utility and then deleted the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\KeePass Password Safe". I installed it in this folder instead: "C:\Program Files (x86)\KeePass Password Safe-2". I then changed all of the shortcuts in my custom menu to point to the executable itself instead of the KDB file I usually use. I hope this works. I will let you know in a few days in the hopes that other people with a similar problem may benefit from my...
Whoopsie! Hey Paul and wellread1: After several days of no problems, the dam thing reverted again to 1.40.1! I have no idea why this happened. I'll try to do the same thing that I did the other day that seem to fix a problem for a while and let you guys know. Regards, Alan
A TALE OF SUCCESS Hey Paul and wellread1: Again, thank you for the feedback. Before I went to bed, I again uninstalled Keepass. Using the administrator mode, I deleted the path "C:\Program Files (x86)\KeePass Password Safe" and the remaining detritus that it contained. Then I reinstalled Keepass using the standard installer downloaded from the Keepass site. I then rebooted the computer and this time, it did not revert to an earlier version. I'm not a big techie, but it seems rather obvious to me...
Hey wellread1, The file management software I use is the well-regarded "xplorer2". Nevertheless, I am linking the screenshot from the standard Windows File Explorer below that comes installed with Windows 10. As you can see, the path is "C:\Program Files (x86)\KeePass Password Safe" which is the default Keepass path that the installer uses. The screenshot is definitely of the older version because I have not yet reinstalled the newer version since my reboot. I started up Keepass to ensure that this...

Thank you for the useful information, Paul. I do keep a local copy of the Keepass database on my iPhone and only add passwords from my Windows PC. I go to dropbox on my iPhone and click on the database when I have changed it on my PC and copy it to Keepassium. That ensures Keepassium will not corrupt the original database in my dropbox. I usually don't have to make new passwords on my iPhone, but if I do, I copy them from the iPhone utility and enter them into Keepass via my Windows PC. This is a...
Hello wellread1, Before I posted my question, I had already gone through all of the troubleshooting steps that you had suggested. I made sure that I did not have two copies of Keepass or a portable version anywhere on my computer. At your suggestion, I also opened Keepass and checked the task manager to ensure that it was running from this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\KeePass Password Safe I carefully redid the installation and successfully installed the current version. I tested it and made...
This is my first post here. I am using a Windows 10 computer and have installed and used Keepass version 1.x for years. Version 1.40.1 is currently installed. When I try to install version 1.41, it works fine until I reboot the computer. Then it seems to revert back to version 1.40.1. I have tried uninstalling Keepass completely and reinstalling it. I still have the same problem. I haven't been using version 2.x because I keep the database on Dropbox and use Keepassium on the same database. I am...
