I have Windows 10 with Bit Defender. The solution I choose was to not have swap/pagefile and add a lot of ram (48GB) to not have freeze because of low ram issue. It has been maybe a year now, and I have zero problem. Of course doing that on a laptop will be harder.

Thank you for the clarification. A bit sad to loose a "security feature" on a paid antivirus. I'm personally happy with having lot of ram and no pagefile.

Do you have enough ram? Because I do have bitdefender, I desactivated the pagefile and bought more ram (48GO) and I didn't had any freeze or instability. So do you and @crbrac confirm that with the exception shown in bitdefender you have no freeze?

Weird, for me only Advance Threat Defense is grey out. I read online that only .exe can be excluded from Advance Threat Defense.

Wow nice discovery. I'm running bitdefender total security, paid version. On my previous desktop I had it too and no freeze at all. I will try, when I have some times, to exclude the pagefile.sys file from bitdefender. Now that I have so much ram (48GB) I will need something hard to use that swap memory, maybe use a fork bomb.

but the rest of the pending instructions continue to work from the CPU/RAM combo, I guess, until it can do no more. It would explain why the freezing, for me, is progressive. First windows freeze, still have the video playing, time is freeze, then mouse freeze and finally audio too.

I think it is a combination of both hardware and veracrypt problem. As my laptop i5 8gen have no problem, and my previous desktop computer with a i5 2500k had no problem either. Then I change to a new desktop computer with a i5 12600k (new mainboard, new ram.... ) I just kept the exact same SSD with the already install Windows 10 from the previous computer. And with that I have random freeze in light usage and always freeze with heavy ram usage. I unencrypted this SSD, and magic, no freeze at all....
