I think that adding a command to calculate the total volume of a region would be useful for them who use brl-cad as a way to develop moulded parts: calculating the volume in an easy way can help in defining how much material goes in a single piece.
thanks and keep up the good work!

BRL-CAD actually already provides a shell command that calculates the volume of objects called "rtweight". The usage of the program is rather similar to rt, rtarea, and friends. You specify an optional grid size, a geometry file, and the geometry/region that you'd like to calculate the volume for and it will generate a report. That report contains the volume as well as the weight if you provide a material density table, the centroid, and a few other useful values. Thanks for the suggestion regardless and feel free to report back how well it works out for you. Cheers!
