#433 Privoxy 3.2.1 fails to run on Win98, MSN8
I have d/l privoxy 3.2.1 on my Win98 SE, MSN8 system
and in installing got an error message: "error opening file
for writing: C:/Program Files/Privoxy/privoxy.exe". I then
was offered 3 options: Abort, Retry or Ignore. I hit
Retry and each time i did, i kept getting the error
message. Finally, i hit Ignore and privoxy installed.
Then when i tried to run privoxy - it wouldn't start
automatically even though box was checked on
installation, got another error message: "Fatal error:
can't bind to 127.0.0.1: 8118 because(fatal error 0)".
So is this a bug in your program or an error from my
MSN8 browser or my Win98 SE? Hope you can help.

Steve,
it looks ike Privoxy already was installed and running
on your system when you tried to install.
If you want to update to a newer version (BTW, there
is no version 3.2.1), you need to quit Privoxy before
starting the installer.
To do that: Look for the P-icon in the taskbar (bottom
right of screen), right-click, select exit. Then find Privoxy
submenu in "Programs" section of "Start" menu, select
"uninstall".
Then install new version
