About PeakD

Decentralization together with a new concept of “cryptographic keys” allows users to have real true ownership. True ownership is something no other social media is willing to give users because they need you dependent on their site. Your posts and comments exist independent of PeakD or any website and only the owner of the “keys” (you) has the ability to make any change or addition. Users can create and actually own a community (or choose to make it community-operated). PeakD then becomes a partner to help your community. Your connections with other users are independent of PeakD. Deplatforming is a fear that only exists in systems that don’t have true ownership and decentralization. Welcome to a new kind of platform where authority and power are spread across the community. This isn’t yet another "verbal pinky-promise" with users, the foundations are completely different from any other content or social media site.

    "Smoothest Decentralized Experience"

    Pros: PeakD is beautiful and works really well. It is integrated with Hive and has several authentication methods available. Finding an interacting with communities is easy, and the software is very smooth.

    Cons: Would really prefer that the software was open source. All transactions can be completed through Keychain to verify safety, so it's not a huge con.

    Overall: Using PeakD gives a glimpse of what these decentralized interactions can be like. Smooth, easy, and beautiful. Finding authors, communities, and friends is pleasant.

    "Alternative user interface to Hive"

    Pros: • Content is kept on the blockchain can't be deleted.
    • Own cryptocurrency with no transaction fees.
    • Community driven through elected witnesses.
    • Markdown support to create feature rich blog postings.
    • Monetisation though cryptocurrency.
    • Support for Groups/Community/Tribes support
    • API for automation.
    • Multiple user interfaces possible.
    • Open Source.

    Cons: • Content can still be hidden in the user interface.
    • Whales dominate the blockchain trough the delegated proof of stake.
    • Opening accounts is complicated.
    • While free accounts are available a small one-off investment (≈10$) is suggested to get your account going.

    Overall: Just a different user interface to Hive so everything said about Hive is true about PeakD as well — with the only difference being that PeakD has a more feature rich user experience.

    PeakD is one of the three blockchains which has forked from Steem and shares many functionality with its peers.

    All PeakD blog posts are stored on a public ledger and can't be deleted. This is something to consider when using PeakD.

    PeakD postings are monetised based on the upvotes received. However can be hard for new users to get enough upvotes to pass the 2ç minimum payout threshold.

    The blockchain supports user defined token which can be used by communities to add additional incentives and communities for many interests have been created.
