LedgerLite

Pros: I have been using LedgerLite since 2019. It is very basic and simple to use and with a bit of bookkeeping skills and knowledge it can make keeping track of business, club, and association records so much easier and less frustrating. Financial statements are easily generated for monthly or yearly reports. This program is very affordable and you don’t have to pay all those high monthly subscription fees. It is a good way for small entrepreneurs to keep track of their business without having to spend a fortune. It would also be great for contract workers, therapists and any persons who need to keep track of revenue and expenses for tax purposes. Another bonus is that it is also very easy to pass on your set of books to another person on a thumb drive. This Makes it a great program to use in clubs and associations where the treasurer changes every so often. Instead of new treasures having to use what ever record keeping system they have it keeps the same books in the same format without the new treasurer having to buy the same program as the pre-existing treasurer used.

Cons: Maybe setting up the financial statements might be a bit difficult for some persons

Overall: Fantastic! Made my life so much easier. I have also recently purchased another licence of LedgerLite to run books for three different companies all for the price of the one lifetime guarantee. You can use the program anywhere anytime as it is installed on your computer and doesn’t need the internet. LedgerLite is easy to use and the instructional videos are also very helpful. I highly recommend it!

Pros: I greatly appreciate this software's classic and straightforward design, which stands out in an era of increasingly complex tools. Its reliability, efficiency, and ease of use make it a valuable asset.

Cons: It would be helpful to have the option to print invoices directly from the software.

The software can be hard to find; greater visibility and marketing would help more users discover this useful tool.

Pros: Flexible, complete accounting system. Fantastic customer/tech support. Gets at the nuts and bolts of accounting, which helps produce cleaner, more accurate accounting information for a variety of businesses. Streamlined approach helps to avoid the quagmire that results when using some more automatic programs that pretend that the user does not need to know what they are doing (e.g., Quickbooks).

Cons: With the reports (balance sheet, income statement), it is not intuitively obvious that it is necessary to print the report to save changes. Does require a user's willingness to delve into accounting principles. Although this was a pro for me, this might not be of interest to some people.

Overall: Great program that covers all accounting needs. Matthew has been very responsive and helpful in answering all my questions, and he is an excellent teacher (patience, knowledge, detailed instruction). His excitement about promoting better accounting systems is contagious. After the learning curve, it is easy to maintain accurate books.

Pros: Not cloud based (your data), one of purchase (no subs), gives tools so you can make solutions, lightweight/portable.

Cons: The support for this product is lacking once you get more technical. However this could be because it sits on the fence of software features and accounting principles. Once through my first years returns we got a lot of the crinkles ironed out.

Overall: As a keen learner, the prospect of letting a subscription based app do what should be a relatively straight forward job didn't make sense to me. After the free trial period ended, purchasing LedgerLite was a no-brainer. LedgerLite is flexible enough to handle my small businesses books, its helped me learn the fundamentals of double entry accounting, and has put me in the drivers seat of my businesses finances with easy and customizable reporting.

Pros: Basic but powerful enough, easy to use with limited knowledge and reporting is simple to extract!

Cons: Nothing to dislike about LedgerLite, unless you expect too much from it!?

Overall: LedgerLite works great and customer support (if needed) is excellent. Simple but extremely functional.

Pros: As Co-Owner/Business Manager of a yoga studio I wanted a basic self -contained double entry bookkeeping software I could download onto my laptop. Not one of the large software companies with complex instructions and modules to handle functions my business does not need. I'm able to easily maintain sufficient records to prepare monthly & year end Accrual Basis Profit/Loss and Balance Sheet statements.

Cons: I'm at a loss here. Having found a software so well constructed that I have not needed to request technical support in the five years I've been using LedgerLite.

Overall: I've been using LedgerLite for five years beginning in 2018. The software is not needlessly complex and is easy to follow, but also powerful enough to handle my accrual basis set of accounting records. During the first few months I began using LedgerLite, as I learned the software, I often found myself thinking - well that's clever or that's really helpful. I highly recommend this software to sole proprietors and any small businesses like my own that essentially does their own recordkeeping and are knowledgeable in basic double entry accounting.

Easy to use.
No annual fees.
Covers all basic accounting needs.

Cons: Limited reporting capability.
Not well-known in the U.S.

Overall: After keeping books for our small nonprofit club on Excel Spreadsheets for almost two years, it was time to create a real set of books. Our club only has 25 members and we don't have a lot of money. I am a retired certified public accountant and I'm quite capable of keeping a simple set of books. I didn't want buy software with a never-ending cycle of annual "enhancements" with "ever-increasing" fees. LedgerLite was an answer to prayer.

Pros: I am an accountant by education who graduated from college in 1978 and have had a career in business and accounting. I have been looking for a computer based (not cloud based) system for our personal bookkeeping and small consulting business. This software is exactly what I was seeking. Simple, but complete, clean but with all the options needed to design and run financial statements. Really, really pleased with software.

Cons: Haven't found any yet. Have set up detail for our personal bookkeeping including all the basic reports. Easy to do with the format and double entry accounting we learned in school and practiced all my adult life.

Overall: Getting the software was as simple and quick as described. No glitches and staff was immediately available with one question I had about adding another company. Completely satisfied. I know this sounds to good to be true but my experience has followed the excellent reviews I had read.

Pros: The product is a very simple debit and credit accounting systems, that is not filled with all the bells and whistles that make so many programs too complicated to use or understand.

However it his all the reporting and correction capabilities that you you would want.

If you know how to post a credit and a debit you will be up and running instantly with this accounting system.

Cons: Other than it isn't cloud based, which would be my preference, I haven't found the system to be wanting in anyway.

Overall: It really is as straight forward to use as it could possibly be, and yet with all the functionality that you need to maintain a general ledger, reconcile cash, and produce financial statements.

Pros: Super easy to use even for non accountants (although accountants will love it even more), good price as you only pay to register and no monthly subscriptions which makes it especially suitable for smaller entities, flexible and easy to adjust set up such as chart of accounts, reports etc, very reliable and long lasting.

Cons: Nothing obvious - absolutely perfect for its intended use

Overall: I love this software. I have actually been using it for over 10 years to account for discretionary trusts. I needed a new trust recently and didn't consider anything else because LedgerLite is so easy to use and has been perfect for my needs. I also like just paying an initial fee and then using it for years (rather than an expensive monthly subscription like many other alternatives) for entities I need to keep records of but do not have enough transactions or complexity to require something like Xero. I upgraded to the new version for my older trusts as well and am loving the new improvements and how easy it was to change. I was skeptical when I first found this software years ago that it wouldn't be any good, but it has definitely exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend it. There are also a lot more help videos and things if you need it than when I first started which is handy.

Pros: I like the fact that it's a double entry system, and it's really easy to use. The fact that it has two files only, makes life easier too.

Cons: You can't put labels or company logo on statements.

Overall: I really enjoy using it, as its quick and easy. The reporting is really super too. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Pros: Easy to learn and use.
Taught myself and I had no bookkeeping experience.
Great record keeping for personal and trust accounting.

Cons: My accountant gives me grief about my general ledger printout.
It is the very same information arranged in the same order but doesn't have breaks between accounts like he wants to see. (It doesn't look exactly like QuickBooks) I think he's nitpicking.

Overall: It's a valuable tool I use to doublecheck my tax returns when I get them back from the accountant.
I catch things he misses on the returns sometimes.

Pros: I started looking at LedgerLite after I was drafted to be the Treasurer of a small HOA - despite having zero bookkeeping experience. I didn't trust myself to manage other people's money with checklists and spreadsheets. And I knew that the members would not tolerate purchase/subscription costs or 'cloud' storage that comes with most accounting software. LedgerLite fit the bill perfectly. The double-entry method takes a bit of getting used to - but I found that it makes it very difficult to commit as error and, with time, supports a better understanding of what one is doing.

Cons: If I had to offer a shortcoming of the software, I'd point out that it is not written in the current spreadsheet 'idiom' - probably because it isn't a spreadsheet underneath the hood. So tricks like copying and pasting 'columns' to repeat tasks don't apply. (One learns to use the 'Duplicate' button instead.) Similarly, some current interface conventions (such as right click) aren't implemented. Again, one adapts to the older idiom quickly (especially if one is...old). I don't think any of this merits taking away a 'star' for design however.

Overall: In a word - an excellent experience. As has been noted in other reviews, the developer is remarkably - well, responsive. Questions (even those that are more about bookkeeping than about the software itself) are answered promptly and completely. I should note also that the videos and the FAQ for the software will reward careful study. Things that appear missing from the system often are not.

Pros: I have used this program for 9 years and it is so simplistic to utilize and outstanding support but seldom required!

Cons: I do not have any complaints with this software because it is better than any other I have used.

Overall: Inexpensive GL Program with excellent support, easy to use and setup and modify with a one time minimal cost!

The ledger software is very easy to used. I have quick books and would recommend the ledger software to all. If you have any personal accounting software try this one you would it just like me and you will be very happy. And he sells it so cheap.

Cons: Nothing to dislike. The balance sheet on this programme looks very attractive. It reflected your assets and liabilities, to your personal designed.

Overall: Excellent. If you purchased a software right here in USA, it could take a day or two. I was expecting a delay because Matthew lives is another country . It took less than one hour after my payment.

Pros: Everything I need and nothing I don't. Easy to use. Very solid. Really like that I am not paying a monthly fee! If I have a question for them I get an answer right away. I haven't had to ask for any changes because it just works but I have confidence that if I did have a problem they would be there for me.

Cons: Don't have any complaints. It is designed to be simple and easy to use, with the core basics of a ledger and that is exactly what it is.

Overall: Very positive experience. It's a solid design. I like the simplicity, hard to go wrong and easy to fix if I do.

Pros: This is an easy to use accounting system especially for small and not for profit organisations where expense is a significant consideration. It is easy to follow and has great backup assistance

Cons: It just takes a bit of time to change to the double accounting but becomes second nature after a while.

Overall: Good, inexpensive product for those with financial considerations.

Pros: For one time, very affordable payment, we got a highly effective double-entry accounting system with intuitive and simple user interface. I am a CPA with over 30 years of work in public accounting in the U.S. and have used all sorts of accounting software over the years. Recently, I came across LedgerLite and was happily surprised by how I was able to start using the software right away and generate all essential reports. Especially with ability to import and export data in csv format, LedgerLite has the ability to interface with other data processing applications. I initially was somewhat stumped by the entries were ordered in the trial balance report. Initially, TB grouped accounts by expense, income, asset, liability and equity and ordered by account number within the groups. I needed the TB to list entries simply by account numbers. When I submitted support request to Responsive Software, the program was quickly updated within a day. Truly impressed and very thankful that I found this software.

Cons: Not as feature-rich as other accounting softwares. However, for me, not a disadvantage as the simple and intuitive user interface is one of the strong points.

Overall: One-time affordable payment for the simple to use software that does everything I need to be done. For someone who does double-entry bookkeeping work, this is a great choice.

Pros: Maintaining chart for my own needs and ease of data entry was brilliant. Could then tie that into my very own reports. The grouping function is great for keeping analysed data which I don't often need without it cluttering the reports that I want to see all the time.
Responsive are honest, double entry knowledge is needed .

Cons: In the cash book if you aren't entering a ledger account it might help if you had to still put something in, to prevent it just being accidentally missed (I can see some non accountants might do that)

Overall: As a chartered accountant in the past I have set up lots of other systems for non accounting clients. They should all use this program.

Pros: The simplicity of the software, you don't pay for what you don't need, and a once off purchase price.

Cons: Some aspects of reports, having to do year end journals via adjustments.

Overall: Excellent, simple to use, great back up, user problems when encountered, which is rare, are sorted expeditiously.
