GovtPermits is a free online building permit management platform for city building departments, letting residents submit applications, pay fees, and track status entirely online while giving staff a single review queue instead of paper folders and a shared inbox. Residents get a self-service account to save drafts, check status, and pay any additional fees—automatically grouped under their email—while staff can filter applications, update statuses (triggering automatic applicant emails), and customize branding and fees. The platform is free for departments, with no software licenses or per-seat pricing, and cities simply choose whether to pass the flat application fee on to residents.
