Developers, AI application builders, enterprises, data processing teams, and agent developers that need a fast AI model for high-volume classification, routing, extraction, browser use, subagent workflows, and other latency-sensitive tasks
About Claude Haiku 5.5
Claude Haiku 5.5 is an Anthropic AI model designed for high-volume, latency-sensitive workloads such as classification, routing, extraction, and subagent tasks. The model supports adaptive thinking, allowing it to determine when and how much reasoning to perform based on the request. Developers can use the effort parameter to balance response quality against speed and cost, while adaptive thinking is enabled by default. Claude Haiku 5.5 provides a 1 million token context window and supports outputs of up to 128,000 tokens, increasing from the 200,000-token context window and 64,000-token output limit of Claude Haiku 4.5. It also supports browser use through the Claude API and Google Cloud for workflows that require interaction with web-based environments. Claude Haiku 5.5 uses Anthropic's newer tokenizer introduced with Claude 4.7 and later models, which results in the same text using approximately 30% more tokens than with Claude Haiku 4.5.

"Finally a super fast/cheap model from Anthropic" Posted 2026-10-07
Pros: Claude Haiku 5.5 is impressively fast while still being capable enough for a wide range of everyday AI tasks. I found it particularly good for quick coding work, summaries, classification, and other high-volume tasks where responsiveness matters. It's a substantial improvement over Haiku 4.5 and offers a great balance between intelligence, speed, and cost.
Cons: Haiku 5.5 is still designed as the lightweight model in the Claude lineup, and that becomes noticeable on more complicated reasoning and long-running tasks. For difficult coding problems or work that requires a lot of judgment, I'd still rather use Sonnet 5.5 or Opus 5.5.
Overall: Claude Haiku 5.5 is an excellent choice when speed and efficiency matter more than having the absolute smartest model available. It's surprisingly capable for such a lightweight model and works especially well for high-volume workloads, quick coding tasks, and everyday automation. I wouldn't choose it for my hardest problems, but for routine work it's one of the most practical Claude models available.
