About AppControl
AppControl is a free advanced Task Manager for Windows with full history. Scroll back through days of system activity to see exactly what spiked your CPU, filled RAM, maxed the GPU or disk, or overheated your PC, with CPU and GPU temperature tracking over time. Built-in privacy monitoring reveals which apps accessed your webcam, microphone, or location, plus hidden installs and background tasks. Go beyond End Task: permanently disable problem apps, block entire publishers with one click, and build custom rules that stay enforced. Real-time alerts flag new or unusual apps and privacy access the moment they happen. Every process gets a plain-language description, so you can skip the web search. An optional open-source MCP extension connects Claude, Cursor, or other AI tools so you can ask about your PC's activity in plain English, and a CLI is included for power users. Lightweight (20 MB), free, and built to replace Task Manager on every PC you manage.

"Really useful Windows monitoring and control tool" Posted 2026-08-17
Pros: Gives you a really good view of what’s actually going on with your PC, including processes, CPU/memory, network activity and startup stuff. I like that you can actually block things rather than just looking through logs afterwards. It also keeps everything local and doesn’t constantly nag you with notifications.
Cons: There’s quite a lot going on when you first open it, so it takes a little while to get familiar with where everything is and what all the options do.
Overall: Been using App Control for a bit and I’m impressed with it. It feels lightweight, starts quickly and gives you much more control over what’s happening on your machine than the normal Windows tools. The AI feature is nice too, particularly being able to ask what’s changed on the PC and have it look through the actual event history.
