About

Xee is a streamlined and convenient image viewer and browser. It’s similar to macOS's preview app, but lets you easily browse the entire contents of folders and archives, move and copy image files quickly, and supports many more image formats. View contents in archives and folders, faster and easier, without extracting them. When your native preview refuses to display images because of an “unsupported file format”, use Xee for the job. You’re not only having a better view of all your files but better management also. Organize your image gallery in minutes. Xee is a Mac image viewer we always wanted and never had. It’s sleek, it’s fast, and it works with all types of images. Browse images in archives, view images of all formats and manage your galleries.

About

No toolbars or distractions, pure space efficiency. qView was designed from the very start to be as visually minimal and space efficient as possible. No cluttered interface, just your image, and a title bar. You shouldn't have to wait just to view an image, qView opens practically instantly, and switching images is just as quick, all while having low memory and CPU usage. qView features a myriad of configurable preferences to ensure the best experience for as many people as possible. qView supports all common image formats including bmp, gif, jpg, png, tiff, and webp. Whatever operating system you use, the experience is designed to be as native as possible. qView is completely free and open-source software based on Qt5. It can be found on GitHub under the GPLv3 license. Localization support, with many community-supplied translations. The image now reverts to its original resolution when zooming past the scaling threshold (images aren't blurry when zooming in close).

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Back in its day, it was the best viewer for Macs, bar none. But now? I haven't a clue. I wouldn't buy any Mac model later than 2015. After 2015, Macs cannot be upgraded or repaired. Apple's 5-years spent on their "butterfly" keyboard was a disaster, which they *finally* abandoned. Macs are now well-known for overheating and giving out after a few years of use. If I got one for free, I'd turn around and sell it while it still worked.
  • Easy to define up to 10 destinations folders to sort your images in. Easy to watch a slide show of your image folder.

Cons

  • The developer has abandoned all support for this product, yet still has the nerve to continue charging users for it. Support was pretty bad in the past, but now it's officially dead. It's hard to give a good rating to any software which isn't supported. Xee has a lot of nice features, but if you have any issues, questions, problems, TOUGH LUCK!!!
  • No support. For 4 bucks, what do you expect? Some people complain that their old version stopped working. Just buy the new one! No editor. It is a slide show viewer and image sorter, not an editor. I use Luminar AI for editing.
