About
SpeedOf.Me is a free, browser-based internet speed test that measures download, upload, latency and jitter on any device: desktop, mobile, tablet, game console, smart TV or car. No app, no plugin, no download. Launched in 2011 as the first HTML5 speed test, it runs a single stream from your browser to neutral CDN edge servers in 130+ locations, so the result reflects real browsing performance instead of a lab-style peak. We call it Real-World Speed.
Developers can embed the same engine with the SpeedOf.Me API: a few lines of JavaScript, white-label, with callbacks for every metric and an analytics dashboard for usage, geography and devices. Ready-to-run examples cover React, Vue, Angular, Electron, Flutter, iOS, Android and more. An MCP server and CLI (@speedofme/mcp) let AI agents and CI pipelines run real speed tests. The Internet Speed Atlas publishes real-world averages for 119 countries.

About
An internet speed test measures the connection speed and quality of your connected device to the internet. It does so by running multiple consecutive tests that analyze different aspects of your internet connection, namely ping (latency), download speed, and upload speed. Each of these values represents the connection's specific qualities, which you can read more about in the paragraph after the next. These should help you understand the final speed test results. But before we get to these, we first want to discuss how to perform each test. The download measurement is performed by opening multiple connections to a server and simultaneously starting the download of a large data file on all connections. This approach ensures that the entire bandwidth of the internet connection is maxed out, and thereby the maximum data throughput can be measured. Recording the data throughput against measurement time finally yields the available internet speed for downloading data.
