About

Shutter is a feature-rich screenshot program for Linux based operating systems such as Ubuntu. You can take a screenshot of a specific area, window, your whole screen, or even of a website – apply different effects to it, draw on it to highlight points, and then upload to an image hosting site, all within one window. Shutter is free, open-source, and licensed under GPL v3. Shutter allows you to capture nearly anything on your screen without loosing control over your screenshots (tabbed interface). Especially if you are taking screenshots for writing tutorials or manuals you need to edit the image, e.g. highlighting some part of it. With Shutter you don’t need to open an external graphics editor like GIMP, because Shutter ships with its own built-in editor. We all spend much of our time in forums, wikis, chats etc. From time to time we need to do some screenshots and upload them so we can share them with other people.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • The recording process using ScreenRec is simple and I don't have to spend a lot of time tweaking a lot of technical settings before I start recording. I also like the screen and voice recording feature as it helps to make the explanation more natural. When I need to show someone how to do something, and why it is important, ScreenRec is a great tool. The other benefit is that the recordings can be shared in a timely fashion using cloud link. This is useful if the same question is asked more than once as I can send a video that I have already created rather than re-explain the process.
  • ScreenRec is simple to set up and does not require much time to learn. It is simple to record the screen with microphone or webcam sound and convenient to share the finished videos. The absence of watermarks and recording time limits is also beneficial for longer tutorials and training videos.
  • Cloud Storage Minimalistic Design No Watermarks Lag-free Available across all platforms including Mac and Windows
  • Instant Cloud Access Minimalistic Design No Watermarks No lagging or Stuttering Available on All Platforms
  • 4K Screen Recording. No Lags. Records Without Watermark. Made for Video Messaging. Available on Windows, Linux and Mac. Zero Cost. Free Cloud Storage.

Cons

  • The editing side is quite simple, as compared to dedicated video editing software.
  • The editing tools are rather limited. If you are in search for a tools that ensures advanced effects, editing and annotations, ScreenRec offers only basic annotation and editing.
  • No advanced editing features but it does have annotations
  • I didn't encounter any issues with it. It's a complete tool.
  • Lack of editing features, otherwise a must-have for all.
