About

Portainer is an intuitive container management platform for Docker, Kubernetes, and Edge-based environments. With a smart UI, Portainer enables you to build, deploy, manage, and secure your containerized environments with ease. It makes container adoption easier for the whole team and reduces time-to-value on Kubernetes and Docker/Swarm. With a simple GUI and a comprehensive API, the product makes it easy for engineers to deploy and manage container-based apps, triage issues, automate CI/CD workflows and set up CaaS (container-as-a-service) environments regardless of hosting environment or K8s distro. Portainer Business is designed to be used in a team environment with multiple users and clusters. The product includes a range of security features, including RBAC, OAuth integration, and logging - making it suitable for use in complex production environments. Portainer also allows you to set up GitOps automation for deployment of your apps to Docker and K8s based on Git repos.

About

You should simply be able to work on your core product, grow, and get to wherever you want; without having to worry about infrastructure and how to deploy it. Great ideas becoming trainwrecks due to the complex nature of deployments, clusters, Docker, among the many, many other things that can go wrong. Starters allow you to deploy a fully configured project that is automatically connected to infrastructure. Every time you visit your project on Railway, we will check to see if the project it is based on has been updated by its maker. If it has, we will prompt you to update your project. On confirmation, we will create a branch on Github and open a PR deployment for you on Railway. This way, we don’t replace your production deployment and you can test things out within the PR deploy. Once you’re happy with the changes, you can merge the PR and your production deployment will be updated to the latest version.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Portainer ensures secure delivery of containers and reliability while tracking the managed containers. I like the fact it offers free 5 nodes for the Business Edition to allow, the developers to test Portainer before making a move. The speed at which it operates while uploading images and management of projects. It is easy to master because of its intuitive design (UI). It is also easy to understand docker, containers, and Kubernetes if you are new to the cloud.
  • With the Portainer Business version you have the ability to manage your container cluster like never before, it allows you to use very advanced features such as RBAC to control the roles of Kubernetes nodes, it also allows you to use Helm Charts that makes the deployment of container images very fast, also the option of higher levels of authentication such as oAuth, authentication connecting your Active Directory server for greater robust security.

Cons

  • So far I haven't experienced any setback so far for performance.
  • Using Portainer for more than two years I have not found any difficulties of use, on the contrary it has facilitated my day to day in my DevOps area.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • The developer experience (DX) and user interface are both fantastic. Railway significantly reduces setup time and makes it incredibly easy to deploy services quickly using their smooth, one-click deployments without needing to manage a complex cloud stack.
  • Railway is easy to set up and has a clean developer experience. Deployments, environment variables, databases, and project management are simple, which makes it useful for prototypes and small projects.

Cons

  • My biggest concern is reliability. There have been repeated problems across builds, edge networking, and stateful services, making it feel like a recurring operational pattern rather than isolated incidents.
  • Reliability is the biggest issue. StatusGator shows Railway had 44 incidents in the last 90 days, with a median duration of more than 1 hour, and over 1,112 outages in the last 3 years.
