About

An open and complete operating environment, Oracle Linux delivers virtualization, management, and cloud native computing tools, along with the operating system, in a single support offering. Oracle Linux is 100% application binary compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Search the catalog to find information about independent software vendors (ISVs) who have certified their applications to run on Oracle Linux and Virtualization. Applications certified on Oracle Linux run wherever Linux runs—on-premises, in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and in other clouds. Join us in this Oracle Tux Tech Talk webinar on July 28 and learn how to benchmark for performance, discover the benefits of the UEK, and understand which workloads see improvement from UEK.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • If you’re looking for complete control over production and development, Oracle Linux is the way to go.

Cons

  • None, I have found none against them .

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • It installs? Maybe it's easy if you installed all of it, so that it automatically takes you to the GUI with the first boot. I did the minimal install OS on a DVD.

Cons

  • If you get the base OS version, you can't do squat. It's all locked down, even denying permissions to root. And support is very slim compared to Slackware. On Slackware's page, it has tons of basics and step by step instructions for doing things. It's fully operating, running dhclient to get an IP address, while you try that with Rocky, it says command not found, as it does on almost everything. Don't try Xorg -config because, guess what? Command not found. It's raring to go with Slackware, it all WORKS. And I know because I've been using it for more than 15 years. I suppose if you loaded All of Rocky it would work, the full install. But it's apparently ALL or NOTHING with Rocky Linux.
