About

ORMIT™-OpenJava is the premier modern open-source migration solution to automatically migrate your Oracle Forms to Java/Angular/React. ORMIT™-OpenJava converts your Oracle Forms & Reports to an open source JEE compatible software stack (Java back-end with either Angular or React front-end). ORMIT™-OpenJava will convert your PL-SQL code into Java backend source code automatically.

About

Webswing powers webswing.org, enabling any Java desktop application to run directly in a web browser with no source code changes. Using pure HTML5, it supports Swing, JavaFX, Oracle Forms, Eclipse (SWT), NetBeans, and even Java applets. As Java desktop apps face aging technology, security limits, and costly rewrites, Webswing offers a smarter path forward. It runs your application securely on a server and delivers it to users through the browser, preserving the native app experience without modifying your code. Setup takes just three simple steps and can be done in minutes. Our team deploys Webswing every day, helping clients extend the life of their applications, reach new markets, and unlock new business opportunities. We continuously improve the product while providing world-class support to customers worldwide. Visit webswing.org for more information and licensing details.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • We migrated a long-standing Oracle Forms + Reports application with a significant amount of PL/SQL logic, triggers, and custom workflows. ORMIT-OpenJava was the first tool we tried that didn’t just convert screens but actually extracted and translated the business logic in a meaningful way. The generated React UI and Java service layer were surprisingly clean and understandable. Our own dev team was able to work with the output right away, without feeling like they were stuck with something machine-generated or opaque. That was the biggest win for us. We didn’t try to do a big-bang cutover. We ran Forms and the new React modules side-by-side for several months, and that made the transition smooth for users and the business. For the logic translation itself, I’d say at least 80% of our PL/SQL and trigger behavior came across automatically, leaving us focused mostly on UI polish and edge-cases, rather than rebuilding the system from scratch. The process still requires involvement and testing, of course, but compared to a rewrite, the effort reduction was massive. RENAPS’ team was also responsive and helpful in explaining conversion reports and dealing with tricky cases. If your Forms environment is small and simple, you may not need a tool like this. But if you have a mature production system with years of embedded logic, ORMIT-OpenJava can make modernization realistic instead of overwhelming.
  • High automation rate (90%) Keeps existing business logic intact No vendor lock-in — fully open Java/React code Fast and accurate pre-migration analysis Modern, cloud-ready application output

Cons

  • • Some complex, custom logic still requires manual adjustments • The initial setup and analysis step takes care, but it pays off later
  • Requires developer skills (Java/JS) post-migration Only RENAPS can operate the transformation engine
