Since 2011, dealers, C&R collectors, manufacturers and importers have used it to log more than a million firearm transactions in an electronic acquisition and disposition (A&D) bound book. Firearms come in with barcode scanning and go out with ATF Form 4473 completed on a tablet or computer, with the NICS response recorded on the form. A business can keep separate books for consignment, gunsmithing, pawn or NFA items. No correction overwrites a record: the original entry and the reason for the change are kept, and the complete book exports for an ATF inspection.
