About

Lands Design is an advanced BIM tool for landscape design projects in different scales and sectors. It’s your powerful tool in the design process for generating 2D layouts, 3D models and realistic images and videos. It has 2 versions working as plugins for Rhino and AutoCAD. Natural areas can act as an infrastructure, protecting the built environment from pollutions, water flooding or excessive heat. Lands Design gives you the power to design parks, add vertical gardens, green roofs and green areas to your architectural and civil engineering projects. It calculates automatically the list of plants, Earth moving operations, and other materials used in the project. The powerful terrain, forest and irrigation tools accompanied with hardscape tools, can be used in the design process and modeling of forests in silviculture sector. BIM technology visualizes seasonal change and annual growth of plants. It has a 90 day free trial and permanent license.

About

The SURDEV computer package was developed by the International Institute for Land Reclamation and Improvement (ILRI), Wageningen Environmental Research, and the Institute of Land and Water Management of the Catholic University of Leuven (ILWM), Belgium, in 2001. SURDEV consists of three software programs, BASDEV (for level basins), BORDEV (for sloping borders), and FURDEV (for graded furrows). Surface irrigation relies on gravity to spread water over the farmers’ fields. Following the pull of gravity, the water flows over the fields from one end to the other, infiltration into the soil as it goes. The most common surface irrigation techniques are level basins (with or without level furrows), sloping borders, and sloping furrows to distribute irrigation water. The purpose of all of these techniques is to supply water in the right quantity, at the right time, and in an even layer, to achieve a uniform crop stand and minimize water losses.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • It makes my workflow faster and changes in the project are easy to do. It has a huge Plant Database with thousands of species which you can filter depending on their characteristics and it makes my live easier while working with terrains. Also, you have different 3D and 2D representation for all the objects so that you are drawing the 3D and the 2D at once. It has Grasshopper components in Rhino, which means you can work with BIM landscape objects parametrically to manage complex geometries or to automate your workflows.
  • Land Design offers a wide variety of tools for terrain modeling, plant selection and the generation of technical project documentation. Its integration with Rhino and AutoCAD makes it even more versatile, allowing the creation of complex landscapes with a great amount of detail in 3D and photorealistic images.
  • We could achieve various layouts and settings from the same model. The quantity takeoffs are great and time saving. The render compatibility is perfect, even though the Rhino rendered display is good enough.

Cons

  • Irrigation tools could be improved. There are some commands to create pipes and sprinklers but maybe there should be more complex tools for this.
  • Irrigation design tools are very basic and should be further developed in the future.
  • The irrigation tool is not very specialized. There are a few details there not corresponding with a professional irrigation designer.
