About

Ignition SCADA by Inductive Automation® combines an unlimited licensing model, with instant web-based deployment, and the industry-leading toolset for supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) — all on one open and scalable universal platform. Ignition is The New SCADA because it solves all the major pain points of old SCADA . Ignition empowers your business to easily control your processes, and track, display, and analyze all your data, without limits. Ignition SCADA software comes standard with a comprehensive set of data acquisition tools which includes built-in OPC UA to connect to practically any PLC, and the ability to seamlessly connect to any SQL database. Ignition can also turn any SQL database into a high-performance industrial historian and connects to IIoT devices through MQTT.

About

Winlog is a SCADA/HMI software platform for developing multilingual industrial automation applications. It is available as Winlog Pro for standard projects and Winlog Evo for advanced web-based and database-integrated solutions. The platform includes extensive graphic libraries with thousands of static and animated objects for rapid HMI development. Winlog supports major industrial communication protocols, including Modbus RTU/TCP, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, OPC DA/UA and MQTT for Industrial IoT integration with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS and HiveMQ. It offers recipe management, alarm handling, data logging, CSV/PDF reporting, and integration with MySQL, SQL Server and other databases via APIs. Applications can be accessed remotely through Web Client, Web App and Smart App, while the free Winlog Remote app for Android and iOS provides mobile access and push alarm notifications.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • *Pricing model *Excellent source of independent / self paced learning (Inductive University) *Ease of use with minimal formal training *Free full version of software (2 hour time out on clients) *Versatility *Interoperability *Seamless Database and PLC integration *Greatly reduced development time *Excellent Tech support ( Knowledgeable and helpful) Infinitely versatile scripting functionality *******The Ignition platform is capable of performing ANY business software function. With an intermediate level knowledge of python / java / SQL you can create the modules and scripting functions to provide limitless functionality.
  • Flexible, performant, smart, really helps developers, pricing is really good, licencing is very easy.

Cons

  • Possibly the cost of support when using multiple instances of Ignition at a single facility. I will update this when I have heard back from Ignition support. Ignition had a wonderful in person training program pre-covid. But there is talk of not starting it back up and pushing everything to virtual online training. If this occurs it would be a BIG con for me. When it comes to getting the most out of training I don't think there is any comparison between in person and online learning. In person wins every time.
  • There is not much to dislike about Ignition. I have not seen anything better on the market.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Intuitive and easy-to-learn development environment, allowing rapid SCADA/HMI application development. Extensive library of industrial communication drivers, including Modbus, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, OPC DA/UA, MQTT and many others. Powerful built-in tools for alarms, trends, recipes, historical logging and reporting. Flexible web access through browser and mobile devices, with support for modern Industry 4.0 architectures. Integrated scripting (Code Builder) makes it easy to customize applications without relying on external programming environments.

Cons

  • The proprietary scripting language requires some learning if you're used to standard languages like C# or Python. The user interface of the development environment is functional but could benefit from a more modern visual design.
