About

At Gab, we believe that the future of online publishing is decentralized and open. We believe that users of social networks should be able to control their social media experience on their own terms, rather than the terms set down by Big Tech. Gab Social is a fresh take on one of the Internet's most popular applications: social networking. Originally forked from the Mastodon project, Gab's codebase is free and open-source, licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License version 3 (AGPL3). As a result, you, the user, have a choice when using Gab Social: you can either have an account on Gab.com, or, if you don't like what we're doing on Gab.com or simply want to manage your own experience, you can spin up your own Gab Social server that you control, that allows you to communicate with millions of users on their own federated servers from around the world, including users on Gab. Gab.com strives to be the home of free speech online.

About

Rumble.com is an open video platform that sits on a rights management technology. This rights management technology is a machine learning DRM algorithm called Rumble Rank, which automatically scales verification, clearance, discovery and licensing for social (UGC) video. In less than 3 years, the company is now a top 50 video destination according to ComScore. Due to legal concerns (the Viacom lawsuit), YouTube paved way for rights management companies to manage videos on their platform; known as Multi Channel Networks (MCN's). By giving up rights management, YouTube is unable to algorithmically scale rights management, they can't provide agnostic distribution, and they can't allow publishers to take part in video embed revenue. ITunes, Netflix, and Amazon all have basic DRM's (Digital Rights Management) for long form content owned by a few studios, but no one has solved DRM for billions of videos now being produced by the masses.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Nothing. They talk a free speech practice, but in fact it's highly censored for "acceptable" political content.
  • Easy to use, no censorship, parallel economy with great small businesses, GabTV is great. Not beholden to big tech in any way.
  • I'm a conservative and respect Christians. However, I am not a Christian and I clearly wasn't welcome on this site.
  • Friendly community that favors small businesses. You can speak openly about your faith should you choose to. They listen to users feedback and are always looking to improve the platform. No company controlled moderation, leaves it in the hands of users who manage its groups. Support free speech and back it up by allowing all forms of discussion.
  • Friendly to family and American values unlike FB, Google, et al.

Cons

  • Claims to be "free speech" site, but if you post political views that aren't consistent with theirs, your account will disabled as "spam" or it will be hidden so that only you can see your posts.
  • Not really any cons to speak of. It has a great user base already but I hope it continues to grow.
  • I can't believe that Gab is good for Christianity. Gab makes Christians look hateful, angry, and dangerous. I know many Christians and they are positive, moral people.
  • It'd be extremely valuable for them to hire a dedicated IT team that focuses exclusively on user issues. Presently the community supports new user questions, but getting quick answers on technical issues isn't always possible.
  • Needs a bit more maturity as a product.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Varies of the content in the good quality. Nice and clean design. Everything nice until I found out that they are censored ! IMO, BitChute is the way better free speech platform
  • YouTube alternative. Free speech at the very start for a while. Didn't ban people for a while. Didn't lie to people for a while.
  • Even with the free trial, I could upload videos and this platform really does support free speech. I could see totally logical views here on this platform which were banished from the mainstream media.

Cons

  • Not the real free speech platform, Some channel that I'm following get banished, and its centralized structure allows content to be easily censored at the click of a button, whether by the company itself or under government pressure. This reality means it cannot truly be considered a free speech platform, so don't be misled into thinking otherwise.
  • Infringes on human rights. Bans people for wrongthink. Disappears videos without warning.
  • Needs improvement in design aspect. Everything else is ok.
