About

Fork is getting better and better day after day and we are happy to share our results with you. Fork gently informs you about GitHub notifications without being annoying. Resolve your merge-conflicts easily using the merge-conflict helper and built-in merge-conflict resolver. Edit, reorder and squash your commits using visual interactive rebase. Fork allows you to see diffs for the common image formats. Fork's Diff Viewer provides a clear view to spot the changes in your source code quickly. With history view you can find all commits where a particular file or directory was changed. With blame view you can find the last commit which changed a particular file line.

About

TortoiseGit is a Windows Shell Interface to Git and based on TortoiseSVN. It's open source and can fully be build with freely available software. Since it's not an integration for a specific IDE like Visual Studio, Eclipse or others, you can use it with whatever development tools you like, and with any type of file. Main interaction with TortoiseGit will be using the context menu of the Windows explorer. TortoiseGit supports you by regular tasks, such as committing, showing logs, diffing two versions, creating branches and tags, creating patches and so on. TortoiseGit provides overlay icons showing the file status, a powerful context menu for Git and much more. It is developed under the GPL. Which means it is completely free for anyone to use, including in a commercial environment, without any restriction. The source code is also freely available, so you can even develop your own version if you wish to.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Fork is a very solid Git tool with some very nice features. The blame tool in particular is very helpful when trying to debug errors or crashes in software development. That said many of these benefits will not be applicable to all developers or development styles. The performance of the application is solid and the UI is of a decent quality.

Cons

  • High entry price and no free versions are my main complaints, this tool is not well suited for smaller non-profit, volunteer or freeware groups with its upfront costs when compared to alternatives I have reviewed. Additionally, it is a more technical Git tool, it is not well suited for developers who are adept at more technical code tasks and setups as compared to competitors. Similarly, the UI is not designed as well as those in other Git tools such as GitHub or GitLab.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • 1. Tortoise git is a great application for user who don't want to learn all the git commands, as it provides an interface for all the operations. 2. Pulling, pushing, and creating merge requests can be done in just a few clicks with the application. 3. The application is lightweight and does not lag. 4. It helps in cloning whole repositories or specific branches.
  • 1. Tortoise git provides a simplified user interface for the developers to use git and its functionalities. 2. It allows the user to push, pull and request merge in just a few simple clicks rather than writing commands on the terminal. 3. It works flawlessly every time without any errors and a perfect tool for beginner developers or any developer in general for using git in a simplified manner.

Cons

  • The application is lightweight, easy to use and improves the user's workflow, no cons in my usage.
  • 1. I haven't encountered any con or problems in using Tortoise git in my 2+ years of usage.
