About

Expo is an open source platform that enables developers to create universal native apps using React. It offers a comprehensive ecosystem of tools and services designed to streamline the development, review, and deployment processes. With Expo, developers can initialize new projects or integrate existing React Native projects, utilizing features like file-based routing and TypeScript support to build stack and modal screens with minimal boilerplate. It provides fast refresh capabilities, allowing real-time updates on devices through the Expo Go app. Developers have the flexibility to use any library, SDK, or write custom native code, ensuring no limitations in accessing device APIs. Expo facilitates team collaboration by enabling role-based access, QR code generation for feature previews, and integration with GitHub for streamlined pull request reviews.

About

React Native combines the best parts of native development with React, a best-in-class JavaScript library for building user interfaces. Use a little—or a lot. You can use React Native today in your existing Android and iOS projects or you can create a whole new app from scratch. React primitives render to native platform UI, meaning your app uses the same native platform APIs other apps do. Many platforms, one React. Create platform-specific versions of components so a single codebase can share code across platforms. With React Native, one team can maintain two platforms and share a common technology—React. React Native lets you create truly native apps and doesn't compromise your users' experiences. It provides a core set of platform agnostic native components like View, Text, and Image that map directly to the platform’s native UI building blocks.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • 1. Helps in setting and starting up a new project in minutes. 2. The deployment process is streamlined with EAS. 3. Almost all the native modules work in Expo Go which helps us in developing fast ship features faster. 4. Even in rare cases where we want to run the app outside the Expo Go sandbox environment we can run it by making a development build or by creating a build through EAS.

Cons

  • 1. The EAS is bit opinionated and when we want to customize it according to our will it becomes a hassle.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • - React Native is one of the best and leading frameworks to create cross-platform applications with a single codebase. - If you are familiar with ReactJS it becomes easy to work on this framework as the core concepts aside from component names stay the same. - The building time is one of the lowest. - Hot refresh works like a charm.
  • 1. React Native helps in developing cross-platform stable applications for both Android and iOS with single code base. 2. It supports hot reload and hot restart, so the developer can see the changes in the application in real time. 3. The community is overwhelmingly fast, so any developer can start learning the framework with ease. 4. The application made on React Native gives performance close to native application made on Kotlin and Swift because of the native library used.

Cons

  • - There are little to no premade components, everything is bare bones so the user has to build upon it to achieve any user interface, it would have been great if the framework provided some premade components and allowed customization on top of it.
  • 1. The debugging can be a problem initially, as the debugging is not as intuitive as other frameworks.
