About

Joomla! is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) for publishing web content. Over the years Joomla! has won several awards. It is built on a model, view, and controller web application framework that can be used independently of the CMS allows you to build powerful online applications. Joomla! is one of the most popular website software, thanks to its global community of developers and volunteers, who make sure the platform is user friendly, extendable, multilingual, accessible, responsive, search engine optimized and so much more. The definition of a CMS is an application (web-based), that provides capabilities for multiple users with different permission levels to manage (all or a section of) content, data or information of a website project, or intranet application. Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • It is capable of very complex relational loading of pages. If you know how to use it then it can do absolutely anything you want it to do. However, there is a steep learning curve unlike that of other CMS systems. It is open source though and that makes if useful if you need to customize the code.
  • Free to use & Open Source Supports many third party integrations Good scalability Has a great community Frequent updates
  • Free & Open Source. Lots of customization options. Frequent Security updates. Scaleable - to meet growing demands. Great community support. Integration with lots of third party apps.

Cons

  • It really doesn't have very good ease of use. You really have to be familiar with CMS systems and databases to be comfortable with this software. There is no drag and drop to speak of it is more like building with Legos
  • Steep learning curve when compared to other alternatives.
  • Decent learning curve compared to WordPress. Version updates bring massive changes making it challenging to keep up.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • The new interface is a breeze to use. It now has a web services API, best in class for accessibility. Scores very high with lighthouse out of the box. Intuitive, fast and with the new workflows capability its a dream to use at any level. All the bits that that were missing for me have just been filled in with the release of 4. Media manager was improved. Security was always good but now has many extra features not seen with other CMS.
  • We use Joomla to build our websites and web applications because of its incredible intuitiveness and tools to make everything more manageable. Its working environment is quite comfortable for my development team, and its web design resources significantly speed up our work when carrying out web development projects.
  • I like the software to be of great use in entrenching leadership and building planned websites. The web traffic increased remarkably since the process has been done to expose a massive series of programming codes. The support of the program is highly excellent.
  • Free and open source Supports OOP languages Good security features Lots of free templates Mobile friendly websites
  • Web development is very easy and no technical knowledge required to set up. It comes with lots of extensions. Web security extensions are very powerful. Customer support is responsive.

Cons

  • It wont make tea. For a free product thats used on 3% of the entire web theres little to fault it. The media manager was the problem but is much better in 4.
  • Its interface is a little complicated to understand; it is not as friendly as other tools and text editors to develop web pages.
  • I don't particularly appreciate that the interface is a bit cumbersome to understand. However, the software has great guides.
  • Experience is not as user friendly as Wordpress - steeper learning curve. Poor SEO when compared to Wordpress.
  • Overall it's an outstanding Content Management System tool.
