About

Debian is a free, open-source Linux operating system developed and maintained by a global community of volunteers. The distribution provides a stable and customizable computing environment for desktop computers, laptops, servers, cloud infrastructure, and embedded systems. Debian includes more than 70,000 software packages covering productivity applications, programming tools, databases, web servers, networking utilities, and system administration. Its Advanced Package Tool (APT) simplifies software installation, dependency management, security updates, and system upgrades. Users can choose from desktop environments such as GNOME, KDE Plasma, Xfce, Cinnamon, MATE, and LXQt or configure lightweight systems without a graphical interface. Debian supports multiple hardware architectures and offers Stable, Testing, and Unstable development branches to accommodate different requirements for reliability and software availability.

About

GUI Guider is a user-friendly graphical user interface development tool from NXP that enables the rapid development of high-quality displays with the open source LVGL graphics library. GUI Guider's drag-and-drop editor makes it easy to utilize the many features of LVGL such as widgets, animations, and styles to create a GUI with minimal or no coding at all. With the click of a button, you can run your application in a simulated environment or export it to a target project. Generated code from GUI Guider can easily be added to an MCUXpresso IDE or IAR embedded workbench project, accelerating the development process and allowing you to seamlessly add an embedded user interface to your application. GUI Guider is free to use with NXP’s general purpose and crossover MCUs and includes built-in project templates for several supported platforms. Utilize and search through LVGL’s wide selection of widgets to create GUI applications with ease.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Debian is one of the most stable Linux distributions, making it ideal for production environments and long-term use. Extensive testing ensures minimal bugs and high uptime. Over 59,000 packages are available, covering almost every use case. Includes both stable and backports repositories for additional flexibility. Supports a wide range of hardware, including older systems and the latest devices. Kernel 6.1 brings better hardware support for modern peripherals. Debian allows deep customization, from lightweight server configurations to full-fledged desktop environments. Multiple desktop environments are officially supported, including GNOME, KDE, XFCE, and more.
  • Nothing at all. Just stay clear of this distribution. Crashes constantly and also doesn't boot on some computers.
  • Installing: While installing, you have multiple advanced choices, you can choose a GUI installer or a text-based one. DEs: Debian supports a lot of DEs, including, but not limited to: KDE Plasma, GNOME, Xfce...

Cons

  • Debian prioritizes stability over cutting-edge software, which means it may lag behind in offering the latest versions of applications. Users who need bleeding-edge software might need to use backports or compile from source. Debian adheres strictly to free software principles, which may require additional setup for proprietary drivers (e.g., NVIDIA GPU drivers) or non-free codecs. Configuring advanced features, especially for servers or networking, may require deeper Linux knowledge.
  • The constant crashing takes it away for me. Just use a different OS.
  • I haven't found any issues that affect me in any way.
