Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • * Allows non-coders to update copy/images etc in our code with limited risk to the codebase * QA / Production Environments * Translation options
  • - It is very generous of Contentful to give its users one free site. Finally it is possible to host your website for completely free using Contentful, Netlify, GitHub and whatever front-end you like.
  • - It's very easy to set up and start using - The fully customizable API that lets you choose all the fields is just amazing.

Cons

  • * No easy way to update master from QA * Sometimes strange things happen when copying text from other sources into Contentful (styling/language accent issues)
  • - Probably less user friendly compared to something like Wordpress if your someone with zero web knowledge.
  • - Can get slightly expensive for big sites with multiple spaces.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Easy first time build. Very good user interface and user experience. Easy integration with other tools
  • I like using Strapi because it allows me to publish and update our project information and pictures without needing to do manual updates directly to the code. This is especially beneficial since we use a static website, and it helps us save money by avoiding the costs associated with server payments, such as those we would incur with platforms like WordPress. I appreciate the templates in Strapi, which significantly speed up the process of defining our project's structure, eliminating the need to delve into coding. This feature is particularly advantageous because it simplifies the setup process, allowing for a more efficient workflow.
  • Robust headless CMS with intuitive admin UI, flexible APIs, strong plugin ecosystem, great documentation, reliable community support and responsive updates
  • Strapi Cloud has been a game-changer for our nonprofit—easy to use, flexible, and perfect for managing content efficiently without needing a large tech team. The low prices of Strapi Cloud free up valuable resources, allowing our nonprofit to invest more in community programs, outreach efforts, and direct support for those we serve.
  • Strapi is intuitive and easy to set up. The admin panel is clean, and role-based permissions are very helpful.

Cons

  • Multi languages support is too weak. i18n should be better
  • I find the deployment process using GitHub and requiring a manual install initially to be cumbersome. This approach introduces extra steps, which can be quite daunting for non-technical users, effectively acting as a barrier.
  • Self-hosting requires maintenance, initial configuration complexity, occasional breaking changes, plugin compatibility gaps, enterprise features behind paid plans and learning curve
  • Not any as now but just one downside is the limited built-in analytics, which means we rely on external tools to track content performance and user engagement.
  • Some advanced features (like complex filtering or multilingual support) require manual setup or custom plugins, which might be tricky for non-devs.
