Pros & Cons from Real Users Pros ComPDF's conversion API has become integral to our document management platform. We process a high volume of incoming documents in various formats—Word, Excel, HTML—and need reliable, high-fidelity PDF conversion to deliver a consistent user experience. The batch processing API handles our peak loads with ease, and conversion quality far surpasses the open-source alternatives we benchmarked. What truly stands out is the API documentation: detailed, well-organised, and accompanied by practical code examples that significantly accelerated our integration. Response times are fast even under heavy load, and the error-handling callbacks made our pipeline more resilient. We integrated ComPDF's PDF SDK—specifically the viewing, editing, annotation, and annotation reply features—to provide core functionality for our online learning platform. What stands out most is how seamlessly these features enable interactive collaboration between instructors and students. The annotation and reply capabilities function smoothly, allowing real-time feedback on assignments and course materials within a familiar PDF interface. The rendering quality is excellent, and the editing tools are intuitive, which has significantly enhanced user engagement across our learning programs. As a user who has integrated the ComPDF SDK into our company's internal system, I appreciate how smoothly it fits into our existing infrastructure. The SDK is well-architected, making the integration process straightforward even for our internal engineering team. Once deployed, it has handled our document processing workloads—including batch conversions, PDF generation, and data extraction—with impressive stability. The consistency of output quality means we can trust it as a core component of our internal toolchain without constant monitoring or manual intervention. The flexibility of the on-premise SDK has been a game-changer for us. Due to our strict data compliance policies, we cannot send sensitive documents to the cloud. ComPDF's SDK allowed us to deploy the entire processing engine behind our own firewall without losing any functionality. The backend batch processing—such as OCR, redaction, and format conversion—is stable, efficient, and maintains excellent fidelity even with complex document layouts. The API documentation is incredibly thorough, which made integration smooth and fast. We connected our core systems to ComPDF's conversion engine in just a few hours. On the backend, batch processing of PDFs—including conversions, merges, and data extraction—has been rock stable. Even during peak loads, the response times remain consistent, and the error rate is near zero. Cons Advanced options for controlling specific conversion nuances—such as handling uncommon fonts or complex Excel chart rendering—required some trial and error. A dedicated "advanced configuration" section in the documentation would help teams tackle these edge cases more efficiently. The SDK offers extensive functionality, but managing the interaction between multiple features—such as synchronizing annotations across different user sessions—required additional development effort. While the individual components work well, clearer documentation on handling real-time collaboration scenarios would have helped streamline the implementation. Some advanced UI customization options also took time to discover and configure properly. The SDK comes with extensive functionality, but the documentation could be more structured for internal integration scenarios. We occasionally had to dig through different sections to understand how certain modules interact when building a custom backend pipeline. More comprehensive integration examples or architecture guides would help streamline the setup process for teams building internal systems. The initial resource planning for deployment required several consultations with the support team to get the hardware configuration right. A more automated deployment guide or a scaling calculator would be a helpful addition for future updates. While the documentation is strong, having more detailed business use-case examples (beyond basic technical implementations) would help accelerate the initial setup for teams with less API experience.	Pros & Cons from Real Users Pros Product works as expected. Well fit to any environment, especially a Cloud environment. Installation is simple and easy to work. 1. PrizmDoc architecture is extremely flexible. It allows server-side and UI integration the way your product needs. 2. PrizmDoc Viewer supports quite a lot of file formats for viewing in HTML5 browser. 3. The skin of the PrizmDoc viewer is fully customizable as per our needs. 4. Supports native view, redactions, annotation, markup burning, and much more. Great product with nice features and design. PrizmDoc provides good support and is easy to use product. thump's upppp !! We are using self-hosted Accusoft PrizmDoc Viewer to display PDF and documents of other formats within the web browser and without the need to download and open the file in an external viewer. We were able to customize the solution for our needs to control the dissemination of sensitive documents and to better comply with PHI regulations. The Annotation feature of the Viewer is something we were also able to customize for our specific application and it's served us well. Certain components, which we required, were missing out of the box, but our development team was able to add those. The support team for PrizmDoc is very knowledgeable and always comes through for us when we reach out through the ticketing system. Easy to implement, a deployment that matches our architecture, and a great range of capabilities. Cons Compatibility with Microsoft Office is an issue for us as the Editor operates via Linux/ Docker only. unfortunately, almost everyone uses MSO and Word styles and fonts are not displaying correctly. 1. There needs to be a better log file rotation mechanism for the PrizmDoc server, especially when the size of generated log files is humongous. 2. The space and time to create PrizmDoc viewing packages can be improved. 3. Inverse redaction (ability to unmask a user-defined area within a larger masked area) is not possible. UI should be more user-friendly and have some consideration on pricing. PrizmDoc Viewer was missing certain features, which would have been nice to have out of the box: 1. The ability to display bookmarks in the viewer sidebar from PDF files (and possibly other file formats). Currently you have the ability to see page thumbnails in the sidebar, - we would like to be able to access PDF's bookmarks in the similar sidebar natively using the PrizmDoc Viewer. 2. Having the ability to configure the viewer to be able to have all the document pages cache locally in-browser upon viewing. We often receive the feedback that when scrolling through the large documents the viewer takes longer time to load the pages (even if they were loaded and viewed previously in the same viewing session). We asked for this 2+ years ago: https://ideas.accusoft.com/ideas/PDV-I-656 3. Need a better way to deal with password protected PDFs - something that has been requested here: https://ideas.accusoft.com/ideas/PCC-I-457 4. This isn't much of a con, but more of a wish - it would be great to have some sort of an administrator console or dashboard to have visibility into the document pre-conversion, caching and disk usage for the PrizmDoc Server and PAS. Having stats and ability to drill down into how many documents are cached, when the cache is expiring and how much space is taken on disk by the cached documents would be a great way for administrators to provision server resources and troubleshoot any issues. None so far. Wish there was more focus on expanding existing capabilities instead of new products.
