About

ScreenRec is a free screen recorder for Windows, Linux, and Mac that lets you capture your screen, webcam, microphone, and system audio in one place. It is useful for tutorials, training, product demos, customer support, remote work, online teaching, software walkthroughs, and everyday business communication. ScreenRec also offers free cloud storage, no watermark, and no recording time limit, making it practical for both short video messages and longer instructional recordings. After each recording, it generates a unique sharing link, so you can send videos instantly without manually uploading large files. Users can also capture screenshots, create visual explanations, and share content privately with coworkers, clients, students, or customers. Its simple interface helps reduce the time spent on lengthy emails and unnecessary meetings by allowing users to show processes, explain problems, and provide feedback directly on screen.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Significantly cheaper than the market leaders, probably also because I bought it during a discount promotion.
  • it's cheaper than all the others, but is only useful for the most simple tasks (you can use the free Apple QuickTime player for this.)
  • When it works, it does exactly what it's supposed to do very well. The picture and audio in recordings were fine.

Cons

  • Menu entries are partially translated with unclear content and poorly adapted to MacOS Ventura. I could not manage to record app audio. Support has not responded to my refund request for 5 days, even though I had it installed for only 2 hours.
  • Export quality is low, and you can't choose the compression rate, you're stuck with their one preset. Can't separate the webcam and the screen capture. So if, for example, you want to cut into yourself talking in full screen, you just can't do that. The video editor is super simple, good for only the most minimal tasks. If you're not happy with it, btw, there is no refund, even after two days of trying it.
  • 1. It fails to save recordings sometimes. You set it to record, it starts recording. But then at the end it says it has failed to save what you wanted so you lose everything. It doesn't happen all the time but quite frequently. 2. It's a nightmare to get the audio working, if it doesn't work when you've installed it. It records the video ok, but there's no audio, Audio download components are required but these can't get installed. The privacy settings have to be changed of course, but it still doesn't work when you do this. The email support is ok but couldn't solve it.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I use ScreenRec when I want to show someone a spreadsheet, report, or dashboard. I don't have to send a file with a long message; I can record the screen, go through the numbers, and explain why certain numbers or changes are important. The private sharing link is handy, as I can send the recording immediately after I've finished it. I also appreciate that ScreenRec lets me record my microphone and system audio, doesn't watermark my recordings, and gives me enough time to explain things at length.
  • As a software developer, I primarily use ScreenRec when there is a problem that I can't explain with screenshots or written steps. I can replicate the bug, capture exactly what occurs on screen and describe what I thought should have happened throughout the process. This provides other developers with a lot more context than a short ticket description. It can also be helpful when reviewing a feature or handing it off to another developer. I can easily share a link to the recording, rather than uploading a video file, and indicate what still needs to be done.
  • When I'm installing software or making critical adjustments that I might need to do again, I use ScreenRec. I don't want to remember all the steps or write them all down, so I record them as I'm doing them and explain the settings as I go. The cloud storage and sharing link are helpful, as I can store the recording for future use or share it with others who need to do the same setup. I also appreciate the lack of a watermark and not having to be limited to very short recordings.
  • ScreenRec is lightweight, doesn’t impose a watermark, and works well for all members of my team using different operating systems, including Windows, Linux, and Mac. Above all, it offers unlimited screen recording, which makes video communication among team members much easier and saves loads of time.
  • The recording process using ScreenRec is simple and I don't have to spend a lot of time tweaking a lot of technical settings before I start recording. I also like the screen and voice recording feature as it helps to make the explanation more natural. When I need to show someone how to do something, and why it is important, ScreenRec is a great tool. The other benefit is that the recordings can be shared in a timely fashion using cloud link. This is useful if the same question is asked more than once as I can send a video that I have already created rather than re-explain the process.

Cons

  • I would like to see a bit more in the editing tools; the ability to cut out small sections or highlight certain cells and figures.
  • So far, I didn't find any shortcoming that can be listed here.
  • The editing and annotation features are not as good as they could be, particularly when I want to take out a little error or make one setting more prominent.
  • The Free Forever plan offers 720p recording. While this is sufficient for routine communication, it may not be enough for more professional communication where higher video quality is required.
  • The editing side is quite simple, as compared to dedicated video editing software.
