About

Bunny Database is a fully managed, globally distributed SQL database service offered by the bunny.net developer platform that makes it easy to deploy, connect, scale, and operate simple relational databases without managing infrastructure. It’s built on libSQL, a fork of SQLite, so it uses standard SQL syntax and works with existing SQLite tools, ORMs, and SDKs while automatically handling replication and scaling for you. You can create a database in one click, choose deployment regions from around the world, and connect your applications via HTTP API, native SDKs (for TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, Rust, .NET), or popular ORMs, with tools to inspect data, run queries, and track performance and metrics in the dashboard. It supports global replication for low-latency reads everywhere, integrates seamlessly with other bunny.net services like Edge Scripting and Magic Containers to bring compute and storage close to users, and uses usage-based billing that keeps databases idle.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Clean and to the point interface. Free & Open source. Lots of extensions / plugins. Universal - Allows connecting to most of the popular db's via plugins. Has multiple Db management utilities. Multi platform - Available on mac, windows, linux.
  • Simple to use. Does not attempt to maximize unnecessary (and non functional) features. Responsive developers. Reverse engineer existing DBs from connections or scripts. And can generate a completely db independent ERD. The price rocks. The documentation generator is by far the best I've seen.

Cons

  • For a free solution and a universal one - I can't find any cons.
  • It is simple and sometimes manual alterations of DDL is needed (e.g., sharding, if present). I'm not (yet) allowed to use it at my current place of employment.
