About

BuildThatIdea is a no-code platform that empowers users to create, deploy, and monetize custom AI applications, referred to as GPT wrappers, in under 60 seconds. Users can define their AI app's name, description, and behavior, choose from various base large language models like OpenAI, Claude, DeepSeek, or Tulu, and upload a knowledge base to customize the AI's role, tone, and style. It handles all necessary integrations, allowing for one-click deployment and monetization through subscription or pay-per-use models. BuildThatIdea offers a range of pre-built AI agents, including YC GPT for startup founders, GRE Tutor for test preparation, and AstroChat for personal astrology readings. It also provides resources like a customizable GPT wrapper template and a collection of 100+ AI app ideas to inspire users. It caters to creators, indie hackers, and businesses, enabling them to turn their expertise into AI-powered products without any coding required.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • * The context awareness is the best I've seen (knows my whole repo). * The quality of the autocomplete/supercomplete is excellent. * New features all the time and they're actually good.
  • It's helpful for any project with little bits of help it gets you really far, gets you to the finish line.
  • - Smart business model. Compared to the raw ChatGPT model you don't feel that message limit, and even when you do, you have plenty of other competitive models to use while you're getting back your capacity. - Auto-completion is useful, but it's pretty much for any assistant - They are listening. Compared to the whales in this niche they do hear us and quickly react, reflect, and implement leading ideas.
  • The autocomplete is easily my favorite feature and the one I use the most. It gets better as you develop more and it really does a great job of understanding your coding style and adapting to it. The conversation chat is also really helpful when I have general app architecture or syntax related questions. I also find myself using the inline commenting feature quite frequently and I love not having to type out all the comments myself.
  • Using Codeium has made refactor suggestions easy by having the ability to highlight specific sections of the code within an IDE! I specifically use VS Code and it has been working pretty smoothly. I also like having the option of having a chat box so that I can discuss other topics.

Cons

  • * The documentation is lacking. * They have the option to use their own models or OpenAI or Anthropic but there's no quantitative comparison of their quality.
  • Content awareness, chat focus, working folder awareness.
  • - The "Ctrl + I" code generator I found to be exceptionally useless. It breaks or deteriorates your code. - GPT-4o is overrated.
  • Although I use the inline action buttons a decent amount, sometimes they clutter the code as I am trying to read through the file. I am not sure if there is an easy way to add a keyboard shortcut that allows for toggling these on/off, but if there is, that would be a nice feature to add.
  • Codeium sometimes struggles to connect to my IDE and I am unable to use. I haven't been able to figure out the cause of this but sometimes I am unable to use Coddium for a couple days and then all of the sudden it is back.
